Bottom Line

The two-pearl Days Inn Chattanooga/Hamilton Place is in a good location for travelers using the airport, doing business at the Volkswagen headquarters, or simply passing through on Interstate 75. It’s also a short drive from the Hamilton Place mall, and surrounded by restaurants -- including a Cracker Barrel next door. Highlights include a free hot breakfast, seasonal outdoor pool, valet laundry, and free parking and Wi-Fi. But, it doesn’t have a fitness center or guest laundry facilities. The 105 guest rooms are comfortably sized and well equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Bathrooms are drab, however, and reviews of housekeeping and maintenance are mixed. Rates are comparable to the nearby Best Western Heritage Inn that has a popular 24/7 diner.

Oyster Hotel Review

Days Inn by Wyndham Chattanooga/Hamilton Place

Scene

A budget chain hotel with a bright lobby that hosts many short term travelers

Travelers stay here for various reasons, but most of them are looking for comfortable rooms at affordable prices. Interstate 75’s proximity brings in lots of overnight travelers passing through the area, including many families. The nearby airport and Volkswagen headquarters are big draws as well. The property opened in 1992 as a Fairfield and was converted to a Days Inn in 2013. Rooms on the first two floors are accessed by motel-style exterior corridors, but third-floor rooms have interior access. The modest lobby is brightly decorated in orange, yellow, and green, with contemporary furniture and artwork. A back wall has a long shelf with printers and computers that serve as the cheerful business center. The breakfast room just off the lobby gets quite busy during the morning rush but otherwise, the hotel stays relatively quiet and peaceful.

Location

Just off Interstate 75, near Hamilton Place Mall and the airport

The Days Inn is located on a busy commercial road just off Interstate 75, near the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (an eight-minute drive). Accessing Interstate 75 takes about two minutes and once on the highway, the Volkswagen of America Group headquarters and the dozens of retail stores (like H&M and The Gap) and restaurants at Hamilton Place mall are seven minutes away. Several other hotels and numerous restaurants surround the Days Inn, including a Cracker Barrel next door and a few other full-service restaurants (like Shoney's and Fazoli's) less than five minutes away. Most attractions in downtown can be reached in roughly 20 minutes including the Chattanooga Convention Center, Tennessee Aquarium, and the campus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. It takes approximately 30 minutes to drive to Lookout Mountain’s attractions, including the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park.

Rooms

Comfortable and well equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffeemakers

The dark navy blue carpet with neon green square patterns is the most distinctive aspect of these comfortable rooms (Kings and Double Doubles). The color palette adds an interesting design element, but when combined with rather small windows, it makes the rooms a bit dark. White bedding, drapes, and walls (except pumpkin accent walls) help brighten up the spaces, as doe the matching amber wood furniture. The nature-themed artwork is a welcome addition. The rooms are average in size, with desks and office chairs in all rooms and armchairs with ottomans in Kings. Standard amenities are a plus, with microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Some rooms have black granite vanities placed just outside the bathrooms, while others are inside. The bathrooms are small and drab, with light beige tile floors and faux marble acrylic lining the shower/tub combos. Reviews of housekeeping and maintenance are decidedly mixed. Many past guests praised the condition of their rooms, while several others complained about a litany of issues ranging from musty smells and shabby housekeeping to stained bedding and clogged tubs. The rooms are relatively quiet, but ambient highway noise can be heard in some rooms. Views are unremarkable.
