Bottom Line

Signature Living is an upscale boutique hotel right smack in the middle of Central Liverpool, a close walk to Lime Street Station (with links to London, Wales, and Chester), Liverpool One shopping complex, Albert Dock, and the Matthews Street bar district. Each floor of the property has a different motif (such as a Moulin Rouge or James Bond theme) and offers spacious, distinctly decorated rooms set up to accommodate guests traveling in groups. Judging by the party/club atmosphere of the hotel, it seems more apt for larger groups (think stag/hen parties or one-night events) than for guests seeking single/double occupancy stays who may be greatly impacted by the noise, especially in the evenings.

Signature Living Hotel

Scene

Contemporary design fused with historic details

The strong suit of the hotel is its unique design, which features a seamless blend of modern decor and the centuries-old framework of the building. Instead of being covered up, the wooden beams and steel supports in the rooms and ground-floor bar have been put to use as eye-catching design elements.

The modern lounge bar is a showcase of Gothic chic design, complete with upholstered walls, chandeliers, iron bar stools, and velvet seating. Design also features heavily in the guestrooms, all of which are outfitted with modern furniture and appliances, as well as unique decor tied into particular motifs. Each floor is individually tailored with themes such as Moulin Rouge, Sex & the City, The Hangover, and James Bond.

Location

Super central; a walk away from everything

Due to its location within a 10-minute walk of Liverpool Lime Street train station, Signature Living Hotel offers convenient access to a number of transit links to the surrounding area as well as Manchester, Scotland, Wales, and London. The hotel itself backs up onto the main club/bar district of the city (including the famous Cavern Club of Beatles fame), which can get rather noisy in the evenings. The Liverpool One shopping district is also quite close, as it can be reached in about five minutes by foot. The hotel is also within a 15-minute walk of the Albert Dock, where the Tate Gallery and Merseyside Maritime Museum are based, not to mention a handful of top-notch restaurants as well.

Rooms

Cool themes, impressive decor, and several extras

Signature Living has done a good job at designing each room differently, and all come with some pretty impressive furniture and decor. Some even feature beautiful old hardwood floors, which are a great touch.

Bathrooms especially have received extra attention and are much larger (some with more than one tub) than standard bathrooms -- TVs are even included in some. Unfortunately, toiletries are not offered.

Rooms include free coffee and tea, as well as high-tech touches such as iPod docks and large flat-screen TVs. The furniture is modern, as well as the decoration, and everything fits in nicely with its own theme. With that said, some of the furniture and fixtures in the rooms show some signs of wear and neglect.

Features

Plenty for the party crowd, but basic otherwise

Signature Living Hotel has made the point of adding a significant amount of extras for guests, especially for larger groups. The Sanctum club/party room can be rented out to guests that wish to have their own party on the premises. The room includes a DJ book, full bar facilities, and seating for up to 140 people. The hotel lounge bar on the ground floor serves food throughout the day and cocktails at night, with lounge music playing throughout the day. Signature Living also has free Wi-Fi for guests as well as a small upstairs lounge that overlooks reception.
