Bottom Line

The We Valley Boutique is a newer budget hotel in the outskirts of Chiang Mai, set in front of a mountainous backdrop. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, electric kettles, and free Wi-Fi. While the hotel is reasonably priced, its location is not convenient for sightseeing in the old city. The hotel does provide free bicycles and free transport into town a few times a day. Breakfast is included, but there's no on-site restaurant and it's in a location that lacks dining options.

We Valley Boutique Hotel

Scene

Quiet budget hotel with little going on except at breakfast time

The We Valley Boutique Hotel attracts budget travelers who want a base to sleep at night, but with little going on at the property itself, most visitors spend their time out exploring the city. Many of the guests are domestic travelers as well as some guests from China and Western countries. The lobby is part of a larger, open-plan space that also houses the breakfast nook. Black marble floors are offset by white and brown chairs and sofas and a mix of light-wood and white walls. Other than the busy breakfast corner which can get crowded in the early morning, there really isn't any scene here.

Location

Outside of town in an inconvenient location

The We Valley Boutique Hotel is located outside of Chiang Mai, and because of consistently heavy traffic on the road into the old city, the resort is really only convenient for visiting sights on the west side such as Doi Suthep (30 minutes away), and the zoo, Chiang Mai University, and the trendy Nimmanheiminda neighborhood (all 10 minutes away). There are free bicycles provided by the hotel plus they run a free shuttle into town several times a day, but if you don't have your own wheels, you'll probably end up having to fork out for a few private taxis. Additionally, the hotel is on an airplane flight path so there is occasional jet noise as planes land. The airport is a 15-minute drive away.

Rooms

New rooms with mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs

Because the We Valley Boutique Hotel is new (as of 2014), rooms and suites are in good condition. There are three categories of rooms, which have the same amenities, but higher categories have more space. All rooms have flat-screen TVs with cable, electric kettles, mini-fridges, bathrobes and slippers, desks, and safes. Wi-Fi and breakfast are included. The We Valley category of rooms have a bit more pizzazz, as they are themed after different regions in Europe. Fifth-floor rooms feature Tuscany, while the sixth floor are blue and white with pictures of Santorini on the wall. There's also an English countryside floor.
