Housed within a late-19th-century building, the Cincinnatian Hotel is a small, upper-middle-range historic property in the heart of downtown. While its bones might be old, it has been renovated to a modern luxe style that mixes well with its history. It includes a fine-dining restaurant, lobby bar, fitness area, and meeting rooms, but doesn't have a pool. Its 146 rooms are modern and streamlined in neutral tones, and some have balconies overlooking an eight-story interior atrium. Some suites include additional bedrooms and fireplaces, and whirlpool tubs. But guests complain that some of the rooms show wear and tear, and could use an update. Travelers might also want to consider the nearby Hyatt Regency, which has a heated indoor pool.
The Cincinnatian Hotel was built in 1882 as a grand hotel called the Palace, and it still retains much of its historic grandeur despite a major renovation in the 1980s. Most of the 146 rooms are decorated in a contemporary style, but guests are still given brass keys. The seven-story building has a stone facade, molded details, and top dormer windows. The lobby has marble floors in brown, black, and white, inset lighting, a wood reception desk and furniture, and a grand seven-story staircase with a wood banister. The lobby bar, with leathery bench seating, cafe tables, and a half-circle bar is a cozy place to gather. With its downtown location and proximity to offices, shops, and Paul Brown Stadium, this hotel draws tourists (mainly couples and families), business travelers, and sports fans.
Well-located in downtown Cincinnati within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and Paul Brown Stadium
This downtown hotel is a three-minute walk to Fountain Square, the city center, with Panera Bread and Chipotle across the street. Guests can walk to Paul Brown Stadium in 15 minutes. The Aronoff Center for Performing Arts and Contemporary Arts Center are around the corner, about a two-minute walk from the hotel. A valet parking stand is near the hotel's main entrance on Sixth Street, and a free shuttle runs from the hotel to the Horseshow Casino, about a four-minute trip.

Contemporary rooms and nice bathrooms -- but some rooms in need of a revamp
The 146 rooms at the Cincinnatian vary in size, and along with standard doubles, include rooms with deep whirlpools and suites with additional bedrooms and dining tables -- some have fireplaces. Decor varies, but most mix contemporary and classic pieces in neutral tones, with white bedding, cream-colored or light-yellow walls, and accent rugs. Furniture might include cushioned benches, velvety armchairs, and ottomans, or leathery brown couches. Bathrooms, with shower/tub combos, are a stylish black and white, and come with toiletries. Suite bathrooms can include soaking bathtubs and separate showers, heated floors, and whirlpool baths. All rooms are air-conditioned and have blackout curtains, flat-screen TVs (suites have iPod docks), robes and slippers, and free Wi-Fi. They come stocked with expensive minibar snacks and drinks. Refrigerators, microwaves, cribs, and cots come with extra fees. There are no coffeemakers.
While rooms tend to be clean, well-kept, and modern, not all have been equally updated, and guests recommend requesting renovated rooms. Be aware that rooms facing the atrium can be noisy.
Restaurant, lobby bar, free Wi-Fi, and fitness area, but no pool
The hotel has a restaurant, the Palace Restaurant, which serves breakfast (not included), lunch, and dinner, and the Cricket Lounge, a lobby bar in the atrium with a daily happy hour. Room service is available 24 hours a day. Free morning coffee is available in the lobby.
The hotel has several meeting rooms with audio-visual equipment, a computer for guests' use, and a small fitness room, which includes weight and cardio machines, and free weights. A concierge is available seven days a week, and free newspapers are delivered on weekdays. On-site valet parking is available for a fee, as are airport transfers. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
