The Hotel Monte Mulini is a chic and contemporary luxury property that overlooks the Adriatic and a lush forest. While Rovinj town is about 20-minute walk from the hotel, reaching its charming Old Town will require a cab ride for most people. Rooms are clean and stylish with high-end bathrooms, and most open onto balconies with sea views. Two restaurants provide excellent dining, and there's an upscale spa. Monte Mulini is one of the finest hotels in the area, but families with children might want to also check out the sleek Hotel Lone next door, which has better kids' facilities.
Scene
Chic Mediterranean hotel with contemporary vibe and sea views
As guests pass through the Hotel Monte Mulini's cool, wave-inspired portico and into its bright and airy reception area, it's clear they're in for a large dose of contemporary chic. A combination of natural materials such as green marble and various shades of wood, together with smart velvet-covered furnishings and cool, 21st-century details create a modern, sophisticated yet welcoming vibe. Four elevators whisk guests to one of three floors, and rooms are spread out across half a dozen interconnected buildings that overlook the hotel's Mediterranean garden and the beautiful Adriatic sea beyond. With its stylish, grown-up atmosphere, the hotel draws well-heeled vacationing couples along with occasional families with children.
Location
The hotel overlooks the Adriatic, and is within walking distance of Rovinj's fishing port
The hotel is located on the edge of the Zlatni Rt forest park, overlooking Lone Bay's pebbly beach on Croatia's northern Istria coast. It's about a 15-minute walk to the fishing port of Rovinj. Its quaint Old Town peninsula with cobbled streets, pretty squares, and massive Church of St. Euphemia is another 10 minutes away. The resort is also situated on the new Mulini Beach -- a pebble stretch of coast shared with the neighboring Lone Hotel. The nearest international airport is Pula Airport, about 40 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Stylish rooms with sea-view balconies and spacious bathtubs
The Hotel Monte Mulini has 99 rooms and 14 suites, all of which blend antique-style and custom-made furnishings with chic, contemporary decor and artwork by Croatian artists. All rooms also open to furnished balconies with views overlooking the cove and nearby forest (ground-floor rooms have only partial sea views). Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, minibars, and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels -- suites add espresso machines and some include kitchenettes. Bathrooms include dual basins, stone floors, spacious tubs, and walk-in showers, as well as fluffy robes, Molton Brown products, and heated towel rails.
Features
Outstanding breakfast service, infinity-edge pool, and an extensive wine list in the Wine Vault Restaurant
An excellent and extensive breakfast buffet with cooked-to-order items is included in the room rate and served in the main Mediterraneo Restaurant, which opens onto an outdoor terrace with forest views. Wine-oriented fine dining is also available in the Wine Vault Restaurant, where the French cuisine is complemented by more than 500 wines. Free olive oil tasting with a different wine for each oil is offered to guests in Deluxe Rooms and higher. The swimming pools include a freeform infinity-edge pool with a swim-up bar, an adjacent splash pool for kids, and an indoor pool that is part of the spa, which also includes a sauna and steam room plus an impressive range of treatments. The spa here is a bit small, but an underground walkway connects it to the even larger spa at the Hotel Lone, which guests can also use. A private pebble beach (shared with the Hotel Lone) has plenty of sun loungers and a hip beach bar.
Bike rentals with kids' chairs are available, but besides these and the kiddy pool, there's not a lot for children here. Sister property Hotel Lone next door has a kids' club and teens' club; guests here are allowed to take advantage of these.
Wi-Fi is free throughout.
