The upper-middle-range Coral Beach Hotel & Resort is a family-friendly property with a private beach and harbor, plus stunning Mediterranean views. The 421 rooms are cheerful, with lots of island-inspired blue furnishings and balconies, though some patterned linens are outdated. Ample facilities include three outdoor pools, an indoor pool, spa, and sports facilities, plus a well-programmed kids' club, playground, and children's pool with an awesome waterslide to occupy the younger set. There are a variety of restaurants offering buffet-style or fine-dining meals, including a romantic Italian eatery, and all-inclusive packages are available. Guests not keen on sharing space with boisterous kids can opt for rooms in the adult-only wing. The Constantinou Bros Athena Beach Hotel has a similar myriad of outdoor facilities, but rates are slightly cheaper.
Scene
Beachfront resort with pretty grounds and guests mostly on the all-inclusive package
The Coral Beach Hotel and Resort is a large beachfront resort that attracts an even mix of families and couples thanks to its variety of offerings. For couples, there's a wing of adult-only guest rooms and several of the fine-dining restaurants require guests to be at least 13 years old. Families are kept busy with loads of outdoor activities, a kids' club, and a large children’s pool with a cool waterslide. A majority of guests go the all-inclusive route, which includes all three meals, snacks during the day, and local alcoholic drinks; top-shelf liquor and other specialty items cost extra.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped, with lots of bright flowers and spacious green lawns. The private harbor and wide variety of water sports available distinguish the Coral Beach from other area resorts. The whitewashed buildings and abundance of stone are pretty, but some interior furnishings -- such as loud red carpeting in the Odyssey Bar and beige armchairs in the hallways -- are dated and in need of an update. Still, the resort also has lovely sea-view terraces with modern wicker seating and restaurants with live music in the evenings. Despite all the activity and presence of kids, the resort is largely peaceful.
Location
On a private harbor and sandy beach, a 20-minute drive from tourist spots
The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort is located at the edge of the historic and ecologically fascinating UNESCO-protected Akamas peninsula. The hotel itself is set apart from any neighboring hotels, and has both direct beach access and its own harbor area for water sports. A supermarket and a taxi stand are right outside the hotel's entrance, and there's free on-site parking. Coral Bay Beach and many popular island archaeological sites -- including the Tombs of the Kings, the Byzantine Museum, the Saranta Kolones Fortress, and the Medieval Castle of Paphos -- are within a 20-minute drive. There are three 18-hole golf courses within a 25-minute drive, and the Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark is a half-hour car ride from the resort. Paphos Airport is 25 minutes' drive from the hotel, while Larnaca Airport is about an hour and a half away.
Rooms
Cheerful island-inspired rooms, with some dated decor and furnished balconies
The 421 rooms at the Coral Beach Hotel & Resort have bright, cheerful decor with lots of island-inspired blue accents. Furnishings differ between room category, and though some have a mostly modern design, others have dated blue and/or yellow patterned fabrics that are showing their age. Local ceramics, blue-painted mirrors, and bamboo furniture add charm. All rooms have sitting areas and private balconies or terraces with mountain, garden, or lovely sea views. There's a dedicated adult-only Executive Wing, although all rooms are soundproofed and noise is generally only an issue for rooms directly over the restaurant area.
Bathrooms are a bit tight on space, and feature marble sinks, shower/tub combos, toiletries, and wall-mounted hairdryers. Some higher-category rooms have jetted spa tubs. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels and pay-per-view movies, coffee- and tea-making facilities, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, safes, and minibars (not included in all-inclusive fees). Connecting rooms are available upon request.
Features
Plethora of outdoor activities, plus three pools and a full-service spa
The Coral Beach Hotel & Resort's crowning features is its private harbor and adjacent sandy beach lined with sunbeds and beach umbrellas. The harbor sets the hotel apart from others by offering multiple water sports that include sailing, parasailing, windsurfing, water skiing, and surfing. Also notable are three lagoon-style pools -- though there can often be a lack of loungers -- plus an indoor pool and a children’s pool with a large waterslide. Sports available are archery, petanque, beach volleyball, bocce, floodlit tennis courts (have to rent a racket), ping-pong, and squash courts. The fitness center is well-equipped with free weights, exercise balls, and cardio and weight equipment. Pilates, yoga, and water aerobics classes are offered throughout the day.
The kids' club has a playground and games throughout the day. Both adults and kids are welcome at the Arts and Crafts Center. The full-service spa offers a range of treatments, including massage and mani-pedis, as well as a hair salon, sauna, steam room, and hot tub. Treatment slots fill quickly, so guests should book appointments before arrival. There is a substantial gift shop and newsstand in the lobby, stocked with snacks and drinks, souvenirs, and bathing suits. The hotel has several large ballrooms for conferences and a staff for wedding services. Laundry facilities are available and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
