Bottom Line

The two-pearl Green Bungalows offers an affordable, low-frills vacation. The location is a convenient five-minute walk from the Ayias Mavris strip and Plateia Seferi square nightlife, but a bit far from the beach at a 10-minute walk. The resort doesn't have the wealth of facilities that other area properties offer, but it does feature a large outdoor pool (with high-season poolside entertainment), hot tub, children's pool, and 24-hour poolside restaurant and bar. The 93 rooms, studios, and apartments have a cheap and dated look, lack TVs, and charge a fee for use of air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, toasters, and hairdryers. Most units have a kitchenette with a sink, stovetop, and fridge. Travelers who want an even more family-oriented atmosphere and location closer to the beach might consider the nearby Panas Holiday Village.

Green Bungalows

Scene

Budget resort with energetic atmosphere that draws both families and partiers

Green Bungalows is housed in a typical white Cypriot building with blue shutters and doors. Interiors have a dated look, but it hasn't gotten too many complaints from guests, who spend nearly all their time outdoors at the beach or around the resort's pool, which has a poolside bar and high-season entertainment. The grounds are landscaped with flowers, bushes, and trees. In the summer high season, Green Bungalows draws mostly young partiers (particularly male) to its location a short walk from the bars and clubs. The resort has a busy and energetic atmosphere, but the staff doesn't let it get excessively rowdy or out of control.  With its family rooms, playground, kids' pool, and location near an amusement park it's also fairly popular for families, though not quite as much as some other resorts in the area. Since the hotel is away from the beach, rates are affordable, and the kitchenettes in the rooms are ideal for those on an extended stay.

Location

Central Ayia Napa location; a five-minute walk from the Ayias Mavris nightlife strip and a 10-minute walk from beach

Green Bungalows is a little more than a five-minute drive off the A3 highway. It's located in the center of Ayia Napa, a little more than a five-minute walk from the Nissi 2 bus stop. Nissi Avenue (a one-minute stroll) is the main shopping street of the town, and also features restaurants and bars. The Ayias Mavris strip of bars and nightclubs is a little less than five minutes on foot from the resort. The Plateia Seferi central square area also features numerous bars and clubs, and it's also around a five-minute walk. Just off the square is the Ayia Napa Monastery, built in 1500 and featuring a 600-year-old sycamore tree outside its gates. Parko Paliatso Luna Park is billed as the largest amusement park in Cyprus -- it's a five-minute walk. Ayia Napa Harbour with its seafood tavernas is a five-minute drive or 15-minute walk. Katsarka and Loukkos Tou Mandi beaches are both within a three-minute drive or 10-minute walk of the resort. The Love Bridge rock formation on the sea is a little more than a five-minute drive. Larnaca International Airport is a 40-minute drive from Green Bungalows.

Rooms

Dated budget units with balconies; most have kitchenettes, but none have TVs

The Family Rooms, Studios, and One- and Two-Bedroom Apartments at Green Bungalows have a dated, spartan look, with largely bare walls and old wood furniture and headboards. Most beds are made with unattractive washed-out blue color bedspreads. Apart from the smallest standard room at 215 square feet (20 square meters), units are spacious, ranging from 323 square feet (30 square meters) to 861 square feet (80 square meters) in size. All 93 units come with balconies (views are of the surrounding buildings and area), and some have living areas and dining areas. Most feature kitchenettes with sinks, two-burner stovetops (no ovens), mid-size fridges, cookware, and tableware. The kitchenettes have a dated look in the appliances, counters, and cupboards. Toasters need to be rented from the front desk. Units do not have television sets and the hotel charges a fee for Wi-Fi. There is also a fee for use of air-conditioning, which most guests opt to pay since Cyprus gets hot in the summer, plus keeping the windows closed keeps out noise from the pool area and revelers returning from nightclubs. Bathrooms are spacious, but some have limited counter space around the sink. All come with showers or shower/tub combos. The shower-only bathrooms have small cubicles and very low rims, which can lead to water flooding the floors. Hairdryers are available for rent from the front desk. Bring your own toiletries.

Features

Outdoor swimming pool with adjacent hot tub and children's pool; 24-hour poolside restaurant and bar

Green Bungalows offers a solid array of property features, though as a budget resort, the quality of  the entertainment programs and sports facilities are more limited and of lesser quality than at some other resorts in the area. The resort’s centerpiece facility is its large (about 20 meters) outdoor swimming pool, bordered by a large deck with hot tub and children's pool. The poolside restaurant and bar are conveniently open 24 hours and feature decent-quality, affordably priced light fare (burgers, pasta, salads) and drinks. Indoor and outdoor dining are available. A big-screen TV shows major sports events, and in the summer high season the hotel has daily entertainment programs and weekly pool parties. The Green Bungalows also has a small playground, futsal court, and open-air game room with billiards tables. The resort also has free parking (limited spaces) and a 24-hour front desk with tourist assistance. Wi-Fi is available for a fee throughout the property.
