Bottom Line

The Castleknock Hotel and Country Club is a comfortable, spacious property outside of the center of Dublin. The 134 rooms are pleasant and modern with great golf course views. Standard rooms are a decent size while the suites are extremely spacious with fun design touches. Room amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and electric kettles. The hotel has two bars -- one with a big outdoor patio area -- a steakhouse, a brasserie for more casual dining, and a patisserie for quick breakfasts. Most weekends there is live music somewhere on the property, too. With a large gym, spa, playground, and 18-hole golf course designed by Jonathan Gaunt, this hotel has entertainment for all types of guests. The hotel is also equipped for large events such as conferences and weddings.

Oyster Hotel Review

About 15 minutes west of the city center

The Castleknock Hotel and Country Club is a 15-minute drive from the center of Dublin and is not easily reachable using public transportation. There is a bus that stops at a nearby shopping center but this is still a six-minute drive from the hotel. It is a great place to escape from the city but not the best location for guests that want to access Dublin without driving.

Dublin has changed dramatically in the last 15 years. First there was the boom of the Celtic Tiger that brought great development and growth to the city. As a result of this wave of wealth, the city now has a cosmopolitan feel that it never had before. Since the economic bust, restaurants and hotels have generally retained the same quality, but the city is less expensive. Dublin has beautiful gardens, museums, and theaters, but it is the everyday things in the Irish capital -- like sitting in a local pub and having a pint -- that are a high point for many visitors.

  • 21-minute drive to Dublin Airport
  • 13-minute drive Kilmainham Gaol, a former prison, now museum
  • 14-minute drive to Irish Museum of Modern Art
  • 15-minute drive to Christ Church Cathedral
  • 17-minute drive to Guinness Storehouse
  • 17-minute drive to Trinity College
  • 18-minute drive to Moore Street food market
  • 19-minute drive to National Botanic Gardens
  • 20-minute drive to Glasnevin Cemetery
  • 21-minute drive to Baggot Street, home of local pubs
  • 21-minute drive to St. Patrick's Cathedral
  • 22-minute drive to St. Stephen's Green
  • 2-hour drive to Belfast
