Tirena Sunny Hotel by Valamar

The three-pearl Tirena Hotel is an older building with a hulking mid-20th century style. Inside, the lobby is spacious, though the color scheme is outdated. Light, almost peach-tinted, wood runs throughout, with coral accents and marble floors in the same color family. There are wicker chairs with fabric cushions set next to the windows. This no frills property is especially attractive to retirees, who are looking for all the basics of a comfy stay, as well as couples and families on holiday. Cooking is on display at the buffet restaurant where guests can watch their food being prepared. There’s a bar with a large outdoor patio that is ideal for relaxing with views of the neighboring green hilltops. Guests can also soak up the surroundings at the pool; in the high season, barbecue parties are sometimes thrown poolside. Entertainment including live music and children's animation teams are also offered. Overall this is a basic budget holiday property that offers access to sunshine and swimming, but is located away from the popular sights of Dubrovnik's Old Town. 

This hotel is located on a hill in the Babin Kuk Peninsula next to a park. It’s in a complex with other hotels near an area with restaurants, grocery stores, and souvenir stores. Dubrovnik's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with preserved churches and fountains dating back to the 13th century, takes eight minutes to reach by car (or a 20-minute bus ride). The crystal clear waters of Copacabana Beach are a 10-minute walk from the hotel, and the Dubrovnik-Cilipi Airport is around a half-hour's drive away. Parking is available for free. 

Rooms at the Tirena Hotel are plain and no frills with a somewhat dorm-like atmosphere. Furnishings are functional, including light wood desks and matching headboards. Industrial-style gray carpets line the floors and a single token piece of colorful art hangs on the white walls. All rooms have TVs (though some are dated tube-style units) and free Wi-Fi, but few other amenities apart from a safe that's tucked into the closet. Bathrooms are equally basic, with large mirrors and shower/tub combos. Larger beds will simply be two twin beds that have been pushed together in many cases. Rooms with narrow balconies and plastic furniture overlooking the green landscaping or sea are available. 

This hotel has a large outdoor pool with a swim-up bar and a children’s pool. There are showers and lounge chairs in the pool area, too. During the high season, an entertainment staff organizes activities for children, and live music is offered on some evenings. There’s an internet corner with two computers, and a meeting room is available accommodating up to 80 guests. The hotel has a buffet restaurant that has live cooking stations and a bar with an outdoor patio -- half-board and drink packages are offered. A large free breakfast buffet is included with room rates and free parking is available. This property does not have a fitness center or a spa, but Wi-Fi is free throughout. Pets are allowed with fees and restrictions.
