Bottom Line

The 85-room Comfort Inn Flagstaff is a value property in suburban Flagstaff, a short drive from Northern Arizona University and attractions like Lowell Observatory. Despite its two-and-a-half-pearl status, this hotel embraces its mountain setting, with lots of Mountain-West details and accents, right down to the mounted animal head in the breakfast room. The hotel has a seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub, a small fitness room, business center, and well-liked free hot breakfast. Guest rooms are pleasant and include amenities like flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and microwaves. For something in downtown Flagstaff, travelers might want to check out the Inn at 410 Bed and Breakfast, which offers charming rooms with fireplaces, but no pool or fitness room -- plus rates are more expensive.

Comfort Inn Flagstaff

Scene

Modern chain hotel with a good dose of mountain-lodge style

This chain hotel blends modern style and amenities with the homey, rustic feel of a mountain lodge, giving it more personality than many Comfort Inns across the land. The lobby has tall wood-beam ceilings, dark wood-laminate floors, and a small seating area next to a black-and-gray patterned wall. The large adjoining dining room is an inviting space with a woodsy feel, complete with an elk head mounted on a stone wall above a cozy fireplace. Floor-to-ceiling windows illuminate the space, and there's plenty of comfy brown couches to settle into as well as round tables surrounded by rustic wooden chairs. Overall, this is a clean property with cozy common spaces and convenient amenities, offering a good value among other similar Flagstaff options.

Location

In suburban Flagstaff, a five-minute drive to downtown

The hotel sits at a busy intersection right off I-17 and I-40, surrounded by other chain hotels, restaurants, and stores, including a Walmart. The immediate area is decidedly suburban and not the most welcoming to explore on foot. Still, most area destinations are within easy striking distance with acar. It’s about a five-minute drive to Northern Arizona State University, while downtown Flagstaff is just over five minutes away by car. The town is packed with galleries, funky eateries and cafes, and lots of independently owned shops and is great to explore for a day. Lowell Observatory is a 10-minute drive from here and it will take 45 minutes to reach Sedona. Grand Canyon National Park is about an hour and 20 minutes away. It’s a 10-minute drive to Flagstaff Pulliam Airport, though it's only serviced by one airline and most visitors will fly into Phoenix, which is a little over two hours south.

Rooms

Clean, contemporary rooms mix modern and rustic decor, but bathrooms are small

The hotel’s 85 rooms and suites have pleasant, contemporary decor done mostly in warm earth tones. Like the hotel's common areas, there's a bit more personality to the rooms than at other Comfort Inn outposts, with rustic wooden headboards complementing the homey mid-tone wood furniture and Western landscape art. Pale yellow and olive walls and rust-colored carpets are paired with mossy green or orange bed runners. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, free Wi-Fi, microwaves, and coffeemakers, while suites add wet bars with sinks, couches, and small dining areas. The vanities sit outside of the small bathrooms, which can feel quite cramped. Shower/tub combos come standard, as do toiletries and wall-mounted hairdryers. Note that there have been some complaints about street noise in road-facing rooms.

Features

Free buffet breakfast, outdoor pool and hot tub, and small fitness room

The hotel serves a free buffet breakfast in its large dining room, including hot items such as eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, and make-your-own waffles. it's well liked by most guests and coffee is available in the lobby all day. There's also a small seasonal outdoor pool as well as a hot tub surrounded by a sundeck. A fitness room offers a handful of cardio and weight machines -- it's nothing special, but fine enough for a basic workout. Despite being primarily a hotel for tourists and college visitors, there are a few business features, including a meeting room and business center with two desktop computers and printers. Wi-Fi is also free throughout the hotel. Guests are allowed up to two pets with a daily fee per animal, and coin-operated laundry is available. .
