Bottom Line

The 36-room Silla Hotel is a family-owned mid-range hotel located in the San Niccolo
area of Florence, on the left bank of the Arno River. Housed in a 16th-century palace with a lovely courtyard patio, the hotel’s rooms are tasteful and classically decorated, equipped with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and minibars. Buffet breakfast is free and served in an elegant dining room with glass chandeliers and gilt-framed paintings lining the walls, plus there's a small bar serving coffee and cocktails and a rooftop terrace offering stunning views over the river and city. It’s about a 15-minute walk to most city attractions, and while the neighborhood isn't touristy, it is lively and typically Florentine, which makes it a good choice for travelers seeking a local scene without the crush of tourist crowds. Travelers could compare the Silla to the mid-range Hotel Balestri, just across the river.

Scene

Family-owned hotel in a 16th-century palace

Situated in a
beautiful three-story building that dates back to the 16th-century and used to be a palace, the
Silla Hotel greets guests with stone archways in a Renaissance-style courtyard dotted with potted plants and sculptures. Interiors are classically furnished, with details like glass chandeliers, oil paintings, and antique-style furniture filling the rooms. The small lobby features olive and gold patterned wallpaper and rust-colored velvet lounge seats presided over by the front desk. The breakfast
area has a Victorian charm with
its crystal chandeliers, gilt-framed oil paintings, and a collection of China plates lining wooden shelves.
There's also a bar area with a few peach-hued armchairs that match the striped wallpaper, as well as a lovely outdoor terrace with plenty of tables and chairs and beautiful views of the river and city.

Location

Located in San Niccolo neighborhood, 15-minute walk to tourist sites

The hotel is located in the San Niccolo neighborhood on the left bank of the Arno River, a lively and authentic area full of locals that provides a respite from the tourist crowds. Many good restaurants, bars, and Florentine artisan workshops surround the hotel. The Ponte Vecchio is a
10-minute walk along the river and the walk to the Duomo takes about 15
minutes. The Piazzale Michelangelo, Giardino di Boboli, and the Monte alle Croci are also on this side of the river and are about a 15-minute
walk uphill with nice views of the city. Florence Peretola Airport is less
than 30 minutes away by car and about 34 minutes away by bus. The nearest bus
stop is about a five-minute walk and is named Hotel Silla.
