Bottom Line

This mid-range condo resort is located on the southern end of Estero Island, a quiet area right by a huge beach. The 60 one- and two-bedroom condos have full kitchens with dishwashers, as well as washer and dryers, fairly spacious living areas, and wraparound balconies with gorgeous views of the beach and the Gulf of Mexico. There’s a tennis court, a volleyball net on the beach, a large heated pool, and a Jacuzzi -- but you won’t find much within walking distance, and the decor is pretty dated, with flower bedspreads, old (but huge) tube TVs, and lots of rattan.

Location

On the widest beach on Estero Island, a short drive to restaurants and shops

Pointe Estero is in the quietest part of southern Estero Island, far enough from the bustling “Times Square” to remain a relaxed place, but a short drive to restaurants and stores. There’s little to do in the immediate neighborhood but go to the beach, and you’ll need a car to move around (there’s a Beach Trolley stop close to the property, but it runs limited hours). However, this part of the beach is the widest and quietest, and there’s a volleyball net and plenty of lounge chairs for rent, making it a great option for families. The intersection of Estero Boulevard and San Carlos Boulevard, known as "Times Square," is where all the action is, with dozens of lively bars, restaurants, fast-food joints, and lodging to choose from -- but it can be a bit of a tourist trap in the winter months.Fort Myers Beach occupies all of Estero Island, a narrow strip of land directly south of Cape Coral and Fort Myers. The main drag here is the long sandy beach covering the whole western side of the island, but there's a hopping nightlife scene, and a few good dining options scattered throughout the strip. It's far more affordable than sophisticated Naples, and not as swanky as Sanibel and Captiva Islands, but it is a great spot for families.- 45-minute drive to Southwest Florida International Airport

  • 7-minute drive to Lovers Key State Park, which has access to a gorgeous secluded beach
  • 10-minute drive to Lynn Hall Memorial Park, complete with a beach close to shopping and dining
  • 10-minute drive to “Times Square,” a bustling area full of restaurants and bars
  • 25-minute drive to Shops at Coconut Point, a shopping mall with more than 130 stores and restaurants
  • 35-minute drive to Naples, a sophisticated town
