San Francisco Hotel Monumento

Scene

Modern hotel in a historic monument

The lobby seamlessly showcases the hotel's combination of the contemporary and the historic. A sleek, curved front desk sits at the end of the narrow room, with dark leather chairs lining the wall, and glass flooring, which shows the remains of the building's original foundation beneath. History is everywhere, from the hallways with stone walls to the beautiful stained glass windows. There are various places to sit throughout the hotel to just relax and enjoy the sense of tranquility that permeates the air. The atmosphere is peaceful, despite the hotel's convenient and bustling location close to the cathedral.

Rooms

Comfortable, spacious rooms with modern amenities

Rooms are large and have a cozy quality. With dusty-purple chenille bedspreads, upholstered chairs, fresh flowers, and simple, but elegant dark wood furniture, the rooms feel as if they are in someone's home, rather than at a hotel. There are several different styles of rooms, some more spacious than others and with unique attributes like stone walls, skylights, entryways, and sitting areas with couches. They all have a desk, flat-screen TV, dresser or closet, mini-fridge, and safe. Watch out for two beds pushed together into one. The rooms are all very quiet and block outside noise, which is wonderful since it can get quite busy outside with tourists. Bathrooms are contemporary, with mosaic tiled walls, his and hers sinks, large tubs, separate glass showers, and a bidet. Wi-Fi in the rooms is free.

Features

A museum, indoor pool, beautiful cloisters, meeting rooms, and free parking

The hotel has many features that exhibit the building's historic past. One of the most beautiful amenities is the Patio de Cristal -- an indoor stone courtyard surrounded by columns and arches, covered by a huge glass ceiling that allows the sunlight to stream in. The hotel also has an outdoor courtyard, where guests can relax at the center of the hotel among beautiful trees and a fountain. Guests have access to the Holy Land Museum, which showcases more than 700 artifacts from the Paleolithic age and on, all from Jerusalem and nearby areas. What makes this museum so unique is that it exhibits pieces from the three Monotheistic religions based in that region: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Another special experience the hotel offers is the Comedor Monumental, which allows guests to dine within a chapel surrounded by velvet pews and a beautiful altar. The hotel also has two other restaurants for guests to dine at. There is a small, indoor pool and above ground whirlpool. For guests traveling for business, there are six meeting rooms, an auditorium, and a business center. There is also free parking, which is very unusual to find within the historic section of the city.
