Bottom Line

The three-pearl GoGlasgow Urban Hotel features stylish contemporary interiors and attracts mainly guests catching a game at the nearby Ibrox Stadium. Though a bit far from the city center, there's a bus stop right across the street that takes guests there in 15 minutes -- or it's a 12-minute drive. The 117 guest rooms are modern and offer a good value with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, kettles, and sleek bathrooms. They lack minibars and air-conditioning, however, and might be subject to some bothersome noise. The hotel has an on-site restaurant and bar serving pub-style food, as well as a few meeting rooms. Though it might be a bit pricier, Premier Inn Glasgow Pacific Quay is a good alternative that’s a bit closer to the city center, plus it offers views of River Clyde from patios and some rooms.

GoGlasgow Urban Hotel by Compass Hospitality

Scene

Modern hotel with stylish interiors and a large clientele of soccer fans

GoGlasgow Urban Hotel is a modern but clunky dark brick building with contemporary interiors. Once past a lovely wooden seating area outside of the entrance, guests enter a rather underwhelming lobby with a wooden front desk, a large printed rug on tiled floors, and soft yellow lighting. The design gets a bit trendier in the restaurant and bar. The wood-paneled bar exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere, with stylish gray and tan chairs placed between couches, as well as a wall of windows that lets in plenty of natural light. The restaurant has a similar color scheme as well as industrial-style statement walls and black-and-white photographs.

The hotel’s location makes it popular with soccer fans visiting nearby Ibrox Stadium, and the restaurant and bar can get busy before or after a game. Note that boisterous late-night revelers in the hallways can be an issue sometimes. Although the property is quite disability-friendly with rooms on the first floor and an elevator, guests should note that there are some stairs on upper-level floors that lead to hallways or guest rooms.

Location

Close to a soccer stadium and somewhat nearby convention centers

GoGlasgow Urban Hotel sits between highways A761 and M8, a 12-minute drive from the city center in an area that feels a bit dodgy to some. The center can also be reached in about 15 minutes via a bus that stops across the street from the property. There aren't many dining options or shopping nearby, but Silverburn Mall is under a 10-minute drive away. Many guests are here to catch a game at nearby Ibrox Stadium, which is a seven-minute walk away. The SSE Hydro and the Scottish Exhibition Conference Center are both about a 10-minute drive away, or they can be reached in approximately 25 minutes on foot, while the Glasgow Science Center is a 20-minute walk away or a six-minute drive. Other points of interest near the hotel are Bellahouston Park (seven minutes away on foot) and a golf course (20-minute walk). It’s a 10-minute drive to Glasgow Airport.

Rooms

Stylish rooms with flat-screen TVs, kettles, and free Wi-Fi; no air-conditioning

The stylish guest rooms at GoGlasgow are a highlight here featuring contemporary decor with vintage touches. A sophisticated gray color scheme includes carpeting, curtains, and patterned accent walls that pair well with brown velour bed frames. Classy black-and-white framed photographs adorn the walls. Subtle retro details include rotary phones and furniture with brass pipe legs or handles. Flat-screen TVs, kettles, free Wi-Fi, and a desk make up the brunt of the amenities. There are no minibars or air-conditioning. Bathrooms are simple and clean, with stylish white subway tiles contrasted by driftwood flooring. Glass showers have waterfall showerheads, plus hairdryers and toiletries are supplied. There have been some complaints of maintenance issues and cleanliness, however, as well as reports of bothersome noise from other guests or attached units outside of the buildings. Some past guests also note poor-quality mattresses.

Features

Restaurant and bar, two meeting rooms, and free Wi-Fi

The most notable of GoGlasgow's features is GoGrill, the hotel’s restaurant and bar. It offers continental and full Glasgow-style breakfast buffets in the mornings for a fee, as well as pub grub meals during lunch and dinner. It’s a popular spot during soccer games as many fans visiting Ibrox Stadium stop here before or after (or stay at the hotel). Room service is available. A lack of any fitness facilities is a definite drawback, and the only other amenities are business-related; there are two fully equipped meeting rooms, a public computer, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property. Dogs are welcome for a nightly fee, while on-site parking is available for free.
