Hotel Roi Soleil Prestige

Roi Soleil Prestige is situated in a modern, three-story blue and gray building built in 2013. The hotel is part of an independently owned chain that operates six properties in the Alsace area, most of which are budget hotels, including the Hotel Roi Soleil situated directly beside the Prestige. Named after King Louis XIV, the famous French "Sun King," the hotel takes advantage of its theme with a large image of Louis XIV with a purple mane covering one end of the building, as well as various other touches throughout, like royal images and plush purple accents in the guest rooms. 

The lobby is basic but tasteful, with cream-colored tile floors, a dark wood reception desk, and modern bench seating accented by bright pillows. The jazz-themed lobby bar and lounge is stylish with cup-shaped suede chairs in pink and purple and large images of jazz musicians on the walls. In part because of its proximity to the highway and airport rather than to the Old Town, this hotel attracts a host of business guests, though leisure tourists account for about one-third of the clientele. Larger rooms draw families. 

Roi Soleil Prestige is situated along the highway and a small lake on the outskirts of Colmar, in a fairly characterless industrial area near the regional airport (a five-minute drive or a nine-minute walk away). There's a restaurant and another Roi Soleil hotel within easy walking distance, but not much else in the immediate area. The Colmar Expo center is about an eight-minute drive away. Colmar's iconic cobblestoned Old Town is about a 15-minute drive from here, as is Gare de Colmar, the city's main train station. Colmar is located in northeastern France's Alsace region, near the German border, and is positioned on the popular Alsatian Wine Route. The hotel offers free on-site parking. 

Rooms are simple and contemporary with a subtle royal theme. Dark purple wall-to-wall carpeting and white walls provide the backdrop for dark wood wardrobes and headboards that pair well with white bedding. Plush purple accents like velvety throw pillows, button-tufted benches, and drapes, add color and style. Mint-green barrel chairs give a point of contrast. Rooms are finished with large Sun King-themed murals behind the bed. Bathrooms are modern with white tiled walls, a separate toilet room, heated towel racks, lit vanities, and small wet-room style shower stalls. 

Rooms are air-conditioned and include work desks, wardrobes with safes, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Unlike most hotels at this pearl level, rooms also have Nespresso coffeemakers -- but no mini-fridges. Bathrooms include hairdryers and toiletries. Single, Double/Twin, and Family Rooms are available. 

The hotel offers only a few property features. There's a bright cafe-style room where a daily breakfast buffet is served, which offers a nice variety of hot and cold options -- but it costs an extra fee. A stylish jazz-themed bar and lounge serves drinks and light snacks. A terrace with a glass roof and walls features sitting and lounge areas. There's no restaurant on-site, but there's one directly across the parking lot. The hotel has one nice meeting room, a computer for guest use, and free Wi-Fi. Reception is open 24/7, and on-site parking is free.
