Hidden inside an apartment building above restaurants and retail shops, the eight-room InnSight is a budget property occupying a great location in Tsim Sha Tsui. Inside, the hostel is cramped, though cozy, with a common room that pulls triple duty as a guest kitchenette, TV lounge, and reception desk. Rooms are lovingly decorated with individually painted wall art and private bathrooms, though some can be quite small. There's no restaurant or bar on-site, nor is breakfast included. Budget travelers might want to consider the nearby Hop Inn as well, a comparable property that also offers private rooms at affordable rates.
Scene
Warmly decorated hostel with limited common spaces
An elevator from the nondescript ground-floor entrance opens into a hallway with a bulletin board that's covered in photos of past guests. The small, functional lobby triples as a kitchenette and a guest lounge with a small reception desk and a couch. Festive and traditional Chinese decorations adorn the walls between doors that lead into guest rooms. Overall the vibe is youthful, casual, and bright.
Location
Centrally located within walking distance to major Kowloon attractions
Surrounded by shops, malls, and restaurants, the hostel is conveniently located in the heart of the Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon. The Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is just a three-minute walk around the block, and various attractions can be reached on foot, such as the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the sprawling green space of Kowloon Park, both under 10 minutes away. For a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, check out the Avenue of the Stars -- known as Hong Kong's version of Hollywood's Walk of Fame, this promenade bustles with tourists lining up to pose with a bronze statue of Bruce Lee, among others. The promenade is just an eight-minute walk away. Expect a 40-minute drive to Hong Kong International Airport.
Rooms
Small, private rooms with flat-screen TVs and artsy wall decor
The hostel's eight air-conditioned rooms are individually decorated with color palettes that range from purple or blue to a more subdued yellow. Each has decorative stencil-style wall art with city or nature themes (one depicts a nighttime city skyline, another a tree with flying birds), along with storage space. And all have free Wi-Fi and 22-inch flat-screen TVs. Standard Rooms are tiny and some have bunk beds, while the Comfort variety has some elbow room, and all have private bathrooms with walk-in showers. Toiletries are provided, and amenities like hairdryers or power adapters can be requested.
Features
TV lounge and kitchenette with water cooler and microwave
Though slim on facilities, InnSight packs a lot into its small central guest lounge, including a couch and 32-inch flat-screen TV, as well as a kitchenette equipped with a microwave, mini-fridge, and utensils. There's also a watercooler and board games for guests' use. The hostel's reception keeps limited hours in the same room.
