From the outside, the 131-room Hotel Indigo resembles the Embassy Suites chain across the way, but its interior is considerably more stylish. Cool cobalt blue walls, striped chairs, and beachy murals make it feel like a beach resort in the center of Houston. The rooms are fresh and bright, with tall ceilings and nautical-themed furnishings. Small kitchenettes feature sinks, tiny coffeemakers, and mini-fridges; microwaves are featured in all suites as well, and in standard rooms upon request. Modern bathrooms have walk-in showers, half enclosed with glass (there's no door). Crossroads Bistro & Bar serves casual fare for breakfast and dinner, and the small fitness center has modern equipment (though the free weights are beat up). Business travelers will likely appreciate the business center and meeting rooms, as shopping-minded visitors will appreciate the proximity to the Houston Galleria.
Location
Within a half hour's drive of three major airports, and within walking distance of restaurants, bars, and shopping
The Hotel Indigo is a 15-minute drive from Downtown Houston, near the Galleria Shopping Center, Winsor Plaza Shopping Center, and a bus stop (though most visitors will choose to drive). They say everything's bigger in Texas, and Houston definitely lives up to that. Characterized by steamy summer days and mild winter nights, the thriving metropolis sprawls over a flat landscape punctuated by tall, stately buildings and winding roadways. Major areas include East End, Montrose, Downtown, and the Kirby districts, but shopping, restaurants, and other attractions can be found off most major highways. As the country's fourth biggest city, Houston is home to several major sports franchises, including the Astros, Rockets, and Texans, as well as the Johnson Space Center, where visitors can hear the infamous line, "Houston, we have a problem" from Apollo 13.- 24-minute drive to William P. Hobby Airport
