V Villas Hua Hin, MGallery Hotel Collection

Hua Hin, Thailand

V Villas is an exclusive and elegant beachfront resort surrounded by lush grounds, located at the southern end of Hua Hin town. The hotel's grounds are laid out in a maze-like garden, with 23 Pool Villa Suites interspersed and hidden away throughout. Pool Villa Suites range in size from one- to three-bedroom units, each one with a private pool and sundeck. Stylish, contemporary decor is met with an array of opulent amenities, including Bose sound systems, stocked wine refrigerators, large flat-screen TVs, coffee machines, bathrobes, and even the services of a private personal butler. Luxurious marble and stone bathrooms are outfitted with walk-in rainfall showers and separate whirlpool tubs. There's a lovely infinity-edge pool and hot tub overlooking the beach (one of the cleanest and nicest of Hua Hin), as well as an elegant restaurant with sunken tables surrounded by water, a small fitness center, and a high-end spa. Rates are expensive, but for a splurge, you’ll do no better.

InterContinental Hua Hin Resort

Hua Hin, Thailand

While not quite in the category of the elite V Villas, the 158-room InterContinental Hua Hin Resort is one of the best choices for five-pearl name-brand lodgings in Hua Hin. Luxe, inviting rooms are spacious feature traditional Thai decor, as well 40-inch flat-screen TVs, Bose sound systems, L'Occitane and Bulgari bath products, and furnished private balconies. A host of excellent features can be found throughout the gorgeous grounds, like an on-site spa, 24-hour fitness center, huge outdoor pool, and large kids' club, plus several elegant restaurants and bars. Additional amenities and 40 guest rooms are housed in the BluPort wing, which the hotel opened in 2016.

Let’s Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort

Hua Hin, Thailand

Unlike InterContinental, Let's Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort is not kid-friendly. This stylish beachfront resort doesn't allow children under 12 years old, making it an extremely popular pick for vacationing couples. Let's Sea has 40 individual duplexes, each one overlooking the hotel's long (nearly 400 feet) lagoon pool. Standard amenities include minibars, Bose stereos, robes, kettles, and free coffee/tea, bottled water, and Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are chic and have walk-in rainfall showers and deep soaking tubs. Although duplexes are separate, noise from neighbors has nonetheless been an issue for some guests. The hotel's open-air beach-facing restaurant has a good range of international and Thai cuisine for lunch and dinner, but some past guests have complained that the food's quality is a letdown. Other features include a spa with couples' treatments, lobby bar, swim-up pool bar with extended happy hour, and 24-hour room service.

Putahracsa Hua Hin

Hua Hin, Thailand

The upscale Putahracsa Hua Hin isn't overtly adult-only, like Let's Sea, but it is another excellent pick for couples due to its lack of child-friendly amenities. The beautiful 67-unit boutique hotel is spread across two zones, the ocean-facing Oceanside (where villas are located) and the garden-filled Silksand (which houses the rooms). All units are bright with natural light due to sliding doors leading to patios or balconies. Villas add private whirlpools, and pools in some. The room decor and furnishings here feel fresher and chicer than what's found at Let's Sea, but Let's Sea rooms gets the edge with their direct pool access. Putahracsa Hua Hin's amenities are on par with the above pick: two restaurants with Thai and international fare, free buffet breakfast, a beachfront bar, and an elegant spa. Putahracsa also has business facilities (Let's Sea does not): there is a variety of event rooms for up to 80 people, and audiovisual equipment and wedding planning services are available.

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin

Hua Hin, Thailand

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin is a luxury property with no shortage of grandeur and charm. The first hotel in Hua Hin, Centara  was formerly the Railway Hotel, which opened in 1923 after the railroad connecting Thailand and Malaysia was built (this rail connection made Hua Hin the country's first beach town). The family-friendly hotel has several wings, but the main building is a colonial gem, with white balustrades and a gleaming facade topped by a red-tiled roof. There are 207 elegant colonial-style rooms (think wood floors, high ceilings, and period furniture) and 42 modern garden villas, each with a private plunge pool or hot tub. All units come with flat-screen TVs, minibars, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Centara can feel crowded with groups (as can the InterContinental), but its rates are generally reasonable considering the extent of its amenities and its elegant, historical atmosphere.

Hyatt Regency Hua Hin

Hua Hin, Thailand

The 213-room Hyatt Regency Hua Hin is a large luxury resort that sprawls along the longest hotel beachfront in Hua Hin. Tucked away at the southern end of town, the resort is close to shopping, eating, and drinking, yet just outside the traffic-congested heart of the city. Modern rooms feature enclosed balconies, separate tubs and showers, iPod docks, and flat-screen TVs. The resort is an excellent choice for families, as it has three massive interconnected swimming pools, an equal number of children's pools, and a 70-foot waterslide, not to mention a kids' club. Hyatt's huge labyrinthine health and wellness center, Barai Spa, is consistently ranked one of Asia's best spas, with outstanding design and it's own Spa Suites. For dining, the Hyatt Regency also impresses. There are free breakfast buffets, live music performances several nights a week, authentic Thai and Asian options, and fine romantic dining in a restored 19th-century wood pavilion by the beach.

Anantara Hua Hin Resort

Hua Hin, Thailand

The 187-room The Anantara Resort and Spa Hua Hin feels both sophisticated and charming -- not to mention very exclusive and private -- for the many couples and families who pass through. The polished luxury resort is hidden down a long driveway, surrounded by orange walls with bas relief carvings of elephants and other Southeast Asian motifs. Stellar amenities include two pools, a spa and fitness center, and an excellent array of restaurants and bars offering everything from fine Italian to authentic Thai cuisines. This attractive property was designed by Bill Bensley, one of the most famous hotel designers in Southeast Asia. His beautiful landscaping and architecture help make up for the narrow, not-so-nice beach.

8

Cape Nidhra Hotel

Hua Hin, Thailand

Popular with Thais and Germans, Cape Nidhra is a luxury boutique on the beach in Hua Hin, right near the city center. The sleek and contemporary resort offers six types of suites, ranging in size from 860 to 3230 square feet. All come with private pools (although some are tiny) with furnished decks, iPod docks, flat-screen TVs with DVD players, coffee- and tea-making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Decor is a bit business-like, but still chic. Sleek bathrooms feature walk-in rainfall showers, deep soaking tubs, and large vanities. Toiletries, robes, slippers, and flip flops are provided. Cape Nidhra offers a ton of facilities aimed at adult tourists, though there's not much for kids. The Cape Spa features traditional Thai massages and other treatments in an elegant, sleek space, and there's a steam room and sauna for guests to use whether or not they are getting treatments. While all of the rooms have their own small plunge pools, those wanting to swim laps can take advantage of the main saltwater pool. Nidhra's dining options aren't as impressive as Anantara's, but there is a restaurant with Thai and international food and an outdoor bar with Gulf of Thailand views. Room service and beachfront dinners are available. Note that breakfast isn't included in the rates (breakfast is free at Hyatt, but comes at a charge at Anantara, as well).
