Bottom Line

The Blau Park is a mid-range property offering direct access to the small Calo Des Moro beach. The hotel is within walking distance of San Antonio's many restaurants, beach clubs, and bars, yet removed enough that it has a quiet atmosphere. The 96 air-conditioned studios have kitchenettes, dining tables, and balconies or terraces, but furnishings are outdated. The outdoor pool and separate kiddy pool are a pleasant spot, plus there are two on-site dining options. Free Wi-Fi is a plus, but it can be spotty. The hotel is lacking in kid-friendly amenities and entertainment, so families may want to consider the Fiesta Hotel Tanit instead, though rooms lack kitchens.

Scene

Mid-range beachfront hotel with some dated decor

Opened in 2000, the Blau Park Aparthotel presents a well-maintained tan exterior with chevron tile work at the entryway. Inside, the lobby has faux-weathered tile in red, blue, and beige, wood panel accents, and large pieces of framed artwork. The overall look is a bit dated, though white leather sofas, metal coffee tables, and large potted plants add some contemporary elements. The outdoor pool surrounded by fake grass and pale brick is the centerpiece of the hotel, and overlooks the beach outfitted with loungers. Aside from this, there aren't any kid-centric amenities, so the hotel is best suited to couples or groups of friends that want to be near the nightlife of San Antonio but not in the thick of it.

Location

Beachfront hotel with sunset views, walking distance to the Sunset Strip

Situated on Calo Des Moro beach, Blau Park Aparthotel is in a quiet spot that's known for spectacular sunsets. The other sunset -- San Antonio's Sunset Strip -- and its famous Cafe Mambo are not to be missed either, and are just an 11-minute walk from the hotel. Popular nearby spots include Golden Buddha Restaurant (one-minute walk away), Kanya Beach Club (three-minute walk), and Pizzeria Capricci three-minute walk). The somewhat touristy Es Vedra island is a 35-minute drive from the hotel. Ibiza Airport is about 25 minutes away by car.

Rooms

Studio apartments with all the necessities, and some with sea views

Blau Park Aparthotel houses 96 well-appointed studios, though they're a bit dated with old-fashioned wood furniture and patterned sofa beds. Still, rooms are spacious and the blue bedspreads and colorful tile work add some charm. All have furnished terraces or balconies, either overlooking the sea or street, and most guests agree upgraded to a sea view is worth it. Each room has a dining table and kitchenette equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, two-burner stove, kettles, toasters, and all necessary cookware and dishware. Other standard amenities include desks, flat-screen TVs, and free but spotty Wi-Fi. Attractive bathrooms have marble vanities, shower/tub combos, hairdryers, bidets, and toiletries. Safes are available for a fee.

Features

Enough to guests out of bed -- outdoor dining, direct beach access, and a large pool

The Blau Park Aparthotel offers a solid range of dining and leisure facilities for a three-pearl property. The hotel's restaurant serves buffet-style breakfast and dinner, plus a la carte options for lunch. Food receives positive reviews and half-board options are available. Ample 32 also serves meals, as well as cocktails, and it has a lovely outdoor terrace that's particularly popular at night when there's occasional entertainment. Though small, the hotel has a small beach lined bookended by rock slabs with loungers and umbrellas. A medium-size pool is surrounded by fake grass, loungers, and umbrellas, plus an adjacent shallow pool for children. Also outside there are a ping-pong and pool table, but other than that there aren't any kid-centric facilities. The Blau lacks a business center, but Wi-Fi is free throughout and there are two well-equipped conference rooms. There's also no gym on-site, though guests can access a gym just a few minutes' walk from the property for free.
