The Jaypee Vasant Continental is an upscale business hotel located in South Delhi's Vasant Vihar neighborhood, close to the airport but removed from the city's major tourist sights. The 119 rooms here are pleasant and business-like, and while all have nice wooden furniture, overall they are not particularly striking. Hotel amenities are more memorable, and include a modern gym, a lovely spa, a large outdoor lap pool, and numerous restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisine types. Tourists might find the location inconvenient; those wanting something a bit closer to town and who don't mind a hotel with a smaller pool may prefer The Park in Central Delhi's Connaught Place.
Scene
Upscale business hotel popular with domestic corporate travelers
The Jaypee Vasant Continental is an upscale business hotel that attracts a largely domestic clientele of business travelers. The towering off-red sandstone building looks elegant but not over-the-top, though the interiors are a bit more chic, with polished marble floors and a woodgrain column at the center of the lobby. Off-white marble and wood paneling can be found throughout the property, and imbedded track lighting in the ceilings keeps the look soft and natural, but bright. The restaurants and bars have a similarly generic business look, though some do add custom decor elements, such as Chinese lettering in Szechuan/Cantonese Ano-Tai and silver-sheen banquettes in the aspiringly trendy Tapas lounge bar.
Location
In South Delhi's Vasant Vihar neighborhood, between Central Delhi and the IGI Airport
The Jaypee Vasant Continental is located in the South Delhi neighborhood of Vasant Vihar, a mixed residential and commercial area with a few nice market areas and plenty of upscale housing. It's a five-minute drive from the DLD Promenade and DLF Emporio malls, both of which have a mix of high-end designer brands and more run-of-the-mill mall outlets found throughout the world, plus plenty of great dining options. The hip Hauz Khas Village, with lots of shops, bars, and restaurants, is a 20-minute drive away, while popular shopping and dining area Connaught Place (the de facto city center) takes a minimum of 20 or so minutes to reach by car. It takes around 25 minutes or so to reach both India Gate and Jantar Mantar, a collection of ancient astronomical instruments. Getting to Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, Delhi's best-known Sikh temple, is also around a 25-minute drive. The UNESCO World Heritage Qutub Minar is a 15-minute drive from the hotel, while Humayan's Tomb, also a UNESCO site, is just under half an hour by car. The sprawling Lodhi Gardens, full of Lodhi-era tombs and meandering paths, is a 20-minute drive away. The Lotus Temple is around a 25-minute drive east of the hotel.Old Delhi Railway Station and Old Delhi's bustling market area -- Chandni Chowk -- are both about 40 minutes away by car, while it's a half-hour drive to New Delhi Railway Station. The Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 20 minutes away by car without traffic, but can take significantly longer during peak hours.
