Some street noise in courtyard
A five-minute drive inland from Little Vagator, Spazio Leisure Resort is a three-pearl vacation resort that attracts vacationing families and couples, with a large domestic traveler base. The 44 guest rooms are bright and well-maintained, with colorful accent walls, air-conditioning, and flat-screen TVs. Both rooms and common spaces feature lots of lovely Goan touches, from the colonial-inspired architecture throughout the property (think yellow-and-white two-bedroom structures with terra-cotta tiled roofs) to cartoon-style art inspired by Mario Miranda, a famous Goan illustrator. Features include a courtyard with a bar and international restaurant as well as a lovely pool with an adjacent kids' wading pool, but the area can get some traffic noise at times. If Spazio is sold out, travelers should consider Orritel Village Square, which is similar in terms of rooms, facilities, and prices.
Scene
Mid-range, family-owned vacation hotel with lots of local touches and colonial styling
The look and feel of this mid-range, family-owned hotel is decidedly Goan, with rooms and facilities housed in two-story white-and-yellow colonial-style structures with wooden window frames and terra cotta-tiled roofs. The local influences don't stop with just the architecture and exteriors, however. Cartoon caricatures inspired by the works of Goa's ultra-celebrated illustrator, Mario Miranda, hang on the walls in many of the public spaces, while terra-cotta sculptures highlighting different local trades are dispersed throughout the grounds. The lobby features marble floors and recessed lighting, with a colorful mural depicting local scenery -- namely fields, mountains, and a nearby landmark church -- adjacent to the front desk. A few steps down lead to a central courtyard area with a mid-sized pool. Just across the courtyard is the main restaurant, a covered but open-air space that's regularly patrolled by a resident feline. Guests are primarily Indian families, though the hotel does get some couples and international travelers as well. Hotel residents should expect some road noise in the restaurant and courtyard during the day.
Location
Inland Anjuna location, a short drive from Little Vagator and walking distance from the Hill Top music venue
Spazio Leisure Resort is located on the main road that runs through inland Anjuna, a few minutes' walk south of the Anjuna Police Station and a 10-minute walk from the famous Hill Top Goa outdoor nightclub, known for its psychedelic trance music events. Though the adress here is in Anjuna, the closest beah is actually Ozran Beach -- aka Little Vagator -- a five-minute drive or motorbike ride away. Anjuna Beach takes 10 minutes to reach by car. Further afield, it's a half-hour drive to Candolim and Calangute, traffic permitting, and over an hour to the Goan capital of Panaji. Getting to the airport in Vasco de Gama can take upwards of 90 minutes, depending on how much traffic travelers will have to contend with.
Rooms
Brightly furnished rooms with air-conditioning and well-stocked minibars; some have balcomies
Spazio offers 44 rooms in total, all but four of which fall into the Comfort Room category. All follow a consistent decor scheme, with polished marble floors, light wood-finished furniture, and dusty-rose hued accent walls. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, split air-conditioners, minibars with snacks and liquor plus small freezer compartments, kettles, free bottled water, flat-screen TVs, and small electric safes. Bathrooms are simple, with walk-in showers or shower/tub combos. Hairdryers and basic toiletries are provided, Superior Rooms are larger and have brighter decor, with orange or yellow accent walls and private balconies with patio furniture, but are otherwise similar to their Comfort counterparts. Though the courtyard area gets some street noise, rooms are fairly well soundproofed.
Features
Courtyard with pool and small kids' pool and bar/restaurant with free to-order breakfast and service all day
Though it lacks fitness and spa facilities, Spazio does offer most of the standard features typical to a mid-range Goan getaway, starting with a mid-sized lagoon pool with an adjacent shallow kids' pool and plenty of shaded lounge chairs. Off to one side of the pool is the simple bar and restaurant, Portico, with a good selection of hard liquor on offer. Goan specialties, pastas, and North Indian staple classics are also served here, and a few different fixed-menu breakfast options -- think eggs and sausage or Indian classics such as paranthas (stuffed flatbreads) -- are included in room rates. There's also a small lending library/paperback exchange in the lobby, with English-language and international books available. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and it's faster and more reliable than at most hotel's in the area. There are a few parking spots on the property behind a secure gate, making it a good option for travelers with rental cars.
