Scene
Huge airport hotel with business- and family-friendly feel
Despite being an airport hotel -- and the only one on the Kansai Airport grounds -- the Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport still maintains a comfortable atmosphere. The lobby is spacious and has plenty of seating on striped couches and blue-printed armchairs around wooden tables. It's a relatively modern, pleasant area to relax with a book or get some work done -- there are a few desktop computers available to guests as well. Guests also gather in the Brasserie restaurant, a bold contemporary space with black-and-white tile floors and a display of colorful flowers and modern sculpture. Many guests are families, and they're made to feel welcome with baby strollers available to borrow. Business travelers are also frequent guests and take advantage of the fast, free Wi-Fi and easy airport access. Overall, the emphasis is on efficiency, with fast elevators and a convenient skywalk that connects directly to the airport.
Location
On Kansai Airport grounds, seven minutes from mainland
The area immediately around the hotel consists of airport grounds: runways, airport and train station buildings, and parking areas. The ocean is also visible, as the airport is built on an artificial island several miles off-shore. A skywalk connects the hotel directly to the airport -- a convenient touch for travelers, most of whom are only here for a night or a layover. There's a convenience store near the hotel entrance, and a train station just a few steps away for easy access to the mainland's restaurants and shopping in seven minutes.
Rooms
Basic and plush options available, with work desks and coffeemakers
Rooms range from Economy to First Class, which are larger, brighter, and have more modern decor. Overall, the rooms are simple and smart, done in shades of white and beige with blue or pale-gold accents. There are large windows to let in natural light, and all rooms have wooden work desks with plenty of space. Higher-level rooms have nice touches like leather-padded headboards, and seating areas with plush chaises and chairs. Standard amenities include air-conditioning, coffee- and tea-making facilities, flat-screen TVs, safes, and mini-fridges or minibars (free in some rooms). Bathrooms have shower/tub combos (some more modern) and ample counter space. Robes and slippers, hairdryers, and toiletries are provided. Air humidifiers are available and step ladders are placed in bathrooms for kids. Upper-tier rooms have MIKIMOTO skincare cosmetics. Guests note that rooms are quiet and there are no issues with airport or interior noise.
