Bottom Line

With a quiet atmosphere and a pet-friendly policy, the nine-room Rus Mar Motel is an ideal spot for those traveling with Fido. Its prime address on Ocean Avenue means guests only have to walk half a block to reach the beach and boardwalk -- a real bonus, especially considering there’s no pool here. The motel offers free parking and Wi-Fi, and has beach equipment like chairs and umbrellas available for daily rentals. Pets incur an extra nightly fee, and only two pets are allowed per room. Travelers looking for a pet-friendly place with a pool should consider Esplanade Suites, a Sundance Vacation Resort, a larger motel that is farther from the beach than Rus Mar.

Rus Mar Motel

Scene

A quiet, pet-friendly place

Rus Mar Motel is a place where people come to vacation with their pets. With only nine rooms and no pool, the motel has a quiet atmosphere that really sets it apart from its neighbors. You won’t find screaming children or rowdy friend groups here. Instead the scene is ultra laid-back. The front office is a small aqua colored room with all sorts of random tchotchkes hanging from the ceilings -- giving it a funky and yet also weirdly nostalgic sort of feel.

Location

Half a block from the beach

Right on the corner of Ocean and East Leaming Avenues, Rus Mar is perfectly situated for beach-bound vacationers. The boardwalk, with beach access, is about a two-minute walk from the motel. Attractions like Morey’s Pier and the water parks are a bit far for walking, but are within a five-minute drive.

Rooms

Simple and clean, with motel-like decor and original ‘50s tiled bathrooms

Like many motels in Wildwood, Rus Mar claims to have the cleanest rooms. And while we haven’t inspected every single motel in the area, we can say with confidence that Rus Mar’s are indeed among the cleanest. Decor is by no means jaw-dropping (in either a good or a bad way), but simple and straightforward instead. White tile floors, soft pastel colored walls, and white beds with garishly ugly autumnal-colored bed spreads set the scene. Bathrooms are charming, with original ‘50s tile in an array of bright colors, and are equipped with a shower-tub combo, toilet, and single sink. There are a few efficiencies at Rus Mar, which have tiny kitchenettes that include a mini-fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, and a two-top burner.

Features

Pet-friendly for a fee, but no pool

Rus Mar’s pet-friendly policy is, for many customers, one of its most appealing features. Pets incur an extra nightly fee, and no more than two pets are allowed per room. There’s no pool or communal barbecue area here, but without these amenities, the motel remains much quieter than the majority of its neighbors. Rus Mar offers free parking and free Wi-Fi, and also has beach chairs and umbrellas available for guests to rent.
