Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa

Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa is a large and busy hotel in central Kyoto. Guests are greeted in the large and sophisticated lobby, with white tiled floors, large reception desk, elegant lounge area, and traditional Japanese decor. The hallways are fairly plain with carpeted floors and no decor on the white walls. The Prandia Cafe & Restaurant overlooks the busy Kawaramachi Street, making it an ideal spot for watching the processions of two of the major Kyoto festivals, Gion Matsuri and Jidai Matsuri. Decor is understated with leather-covered chairs, white walls, and low-hanging lighting. The Library Lounge & Bar “HAVEN” has a typical English pub atmosphere, complete with floral carpeted floors, low-back green suede chairs, brown leather sofa, emerald green walls, book shelves, and an expansive  collection of spirits on display. The atmosphere is lively and at times a bit crowded, particularly during breakfast. Guests here are a combination of leisure and business travelers.

Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa is ideally located in the city center of Kyoto, on the popular Kawaramachi Street. There are several restaurants right across from the hotel, along with dining and shopping facilities within close walking distance. The Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Subway Station is just three minutes on foot, where there's also a bus stop. Sanjo Station on the Keihan Main Line is a five-minute walk and Kawaramachi Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Line is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. It's a five-minute walk to Honno-ji Temple from the hotel. Both the Gion and Kiyomizu areas are within a 10-minute walk. The Nishiki Market, along with other department stores, are 15 minutes away on foot. Nijo Castle is a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Kiyomizo-dera Temple is about 20 minutes by car. Itami Airport is an hour's drive. Kansai International Airport is an hour and a half by car.

The 443 guest rooms at Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa are modern, with mostly generic decor. The rooms are quite small, but by Japanese standards this is normal. Expect standard gray carpeted floors, white walls with maroon feature walls, dark wooden furniture, large wooden headboards, white linens with dark throw pillows, and simple framed artwork. While there is nothing spectacular about the rooms, they are comfortable and well-maintained. For family travelers, there is a Deluxe Family Room which includes two bedrooms that can sleep up to four guests. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea-making facilities (no coffee), desks, telephones, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms include shower/tub combos with hairdryers, magnifying mirrors, and a large selection of toiletries. Slippers are provided. Some rooms have large windows overlooking the city streets. 

A fair amount of features are available at Kyoto Royal Hotel & Spa, catering for both leisure and business travelers. Prandia Cafe & Restaurant serves Japanese and Western-style buffet and a la carte meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Note that breakfasts are not included in all room rates. The Library Lounge & Bar “HAVEN” is a typical English pub serving a range of beverages. Kotoran Spa offers a variety of traditional Japanese beauty and relaxation treatments. There's a total of 14 meeting and event facilities available; the largest facility, the Royal Hall, caters for up to 500 guests. A business center with internet-connected computers and copying and faxing facilities is also available. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, while the on-site parking is available for an additional fee. The hotel has bicycles available for hire, along with a few umbrellas which guests can borrow. There are no fitness facilities available.
