Bottom Line

The three-pearl Aseania Resort & Spa is located in the entertainment district of Langkawi, and offers plenty of family-friendly activities both on and around the property. The property is dated and showing wear throughout, however there are an array of features that keep guests happy, including a mini water park, an outdoor pool with a swim-up bar, and a spa. The 238 rooms have traditional styling, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges, but some are dark and lack balconies. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful greenery and scenic man-made waterfalls, plus the beach is less than a five-minute walk away. Families may find this property a good value, but it's worth paying more for the Berjaya Langkawi Resort - Malaysia, which has a private beach and more modern rooms.

Scene

Family-friendly property with pleasant greenery but dated interiors

The Aseania Resort & Spa Langkawi Island has pretty grounds featuring waterfalls, palm trees, and colored lights at night. Interiors, however, are dated throughout and many furnishings are showing their age. While the lobby's spiral wooden staircase, marble flooring, and high ceiling are pleasant, the bright-red lanterns clash and white faux-leather armchairs are tired. Most areas of the property continue this neutral-tone design with pops of maroon and red. Families are generally keen to overlook this outdated vibe for the quality kid-friendly features, such as the mini water park with waterslides and a long, meandering pool. There's also live entertainment most nights that include dancing and singing.

Location

Near Cenang Beach at southern end of tropical Langkawi, surrounded by nature

Aseania Resort & Spa feels private and hidden away with its natural surroundings and the fact that it spans seven-and-a-half acres. But, it's walking distance to attractions in the entertainment district of Langkawi and less than a five minute walk to beautiful Cenang Beach. Underwater World is a nine-minute walk away and the beach town of Pentai Cenang is a 21-minute walk (six-minute drive) away. There are other restaurants, bars, and hotels within easy walking distance, and the hotel has a taxi service on-site that makes it convenient to get around. Langkawi International Airport is a 15-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Comfortable, outdated rooms with seating areas and flat-screen TVs

One reason this 238-room hotel is so popular with families is the option of suites that accommodate larger groups. Across the board, rooms are traditionally styled and could use a refresh. The design consists of simple wood furniture, tile floors, and cream leather headboards, plus patterned rugs, neutral-tone bed runners and drapes, and canvas prints of the beach. Some furnishings are showing their age and many rooms are rather dim, but they're comfortable and small sitting areas make them feel spacious. Suites include separate living rooms, dining tables, and wet bars. All rooms come with mini-fridges, safes, flat-screen TVs, air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and coffee- and tea-making facilities. Bathrooms are arguably the most dated area of rooms and they have showers and free toiletries. Some rooms have balconies.

Features

Ample kid-friendly facilities include mini water park with one of the longest pools in Malaysia

The hotel caters a bit more to families, as the mini water park is part of the swimming pool, which is one of the longest in Malaysia. The pool has two waterslides, which are opposite a swim-up bar. There's an outdoor stage featuring live entertainment several nights a week, including dance and musical acts. The on-site spa offers a variety of massages and beauty treatments, and a fitness center has a handful of dated equipment. Dining includes a free and varied buffet breakfast served at the all-day restaurant with a bar and indoor and outdoor seating. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, free parking, and a taxi service stand at the hotel. A large gift shop on the property is convenient for buying any essentials or souvenirs.
