Bottom Line

Palm Beach Hotel & Bungalows is a three-pearl beachfront hotel that gets its fair share of both business and leisure travelers. The 228 rooms and suites vary greatly, and while many have sleek, modern decor, Standard Rooms have tube-style TVs and motel-style furnishings that beg to be upgraded. Features include multiple pools (one of which is Olympic sized), lounge chairs and a bar right at the beach, and a handful of restaurants serving Cypriot and international cuisine. Breakfast is always free and there are half-board and full-board rates. For families, there are children's menus, a playground, and a splash park. Business travelers have access to a business center and conference facilities for up to 1500 guests. Travelers may want to compare rates and amenities at Lordos Beach Hotel just up the coast a few minutes up the coast, which offers similar rates and water sports activities.

Palm Beach Hotel & Bungalows

Scene

Mid-range resort hotel spread across two buildings; popular with families and business travelers

Palm Beach Hotel & Bungalows is a mid-range resort hotel situated right on the beach. Most rooms and facilities are housed in a long five-story main building flanked with palm trees and landscaped grassy patches, though the hotel's Garden Studio Bungalows and a few of the suites are housed in a separate section complete with its own dedicated pool. Inside, the lobby is sleek and bright, with lots of marble, granite floors and pillars, recessed lighting, and modern gray and turquoise chairs. The hotel attracts guests from the United Kingdom and across Europe, particularly Germany, and gets its fair share of conference goers, including plenty of Cypriots during the quieter winter months.

Location

Beachfront location in the northern outskirts of Larnaca, near restaurants and on the bus line

Palm Beach Hotel & Bungalows is situated in the northern outskirts of Larnaca, right on the beach. There are a few cafes and restaurants in the immediate area, including a Pizza Hut across the street and a great Indian option, Balti House, just a few minutes' walk away, but there's really not much in terms of attractions in the immediate area. Travelers can get down to the heart of Larnaca on the local public bus, which stops in front of the hotel every half-hour; the journey takes about 25 minutes. Further afield, it's about a 45-minute drive to Lefkara, a traditional village known for its lace and filigree silver work. Party hub Ayia Napa is a 25-minute drive from the hotel. Larnaca International Airport is a 20- to 25-minute drive away.

Rooms

Mix of dated and renovated rooms with sea or garden views, plus lovely bungalows and suites

This hotel offers Standard and Superior (renovated) Garden and Sea View Rooms along with upgraded Garden Studio Bungalows (located in a separate complex at one end of the resort) and a handful of suites. All units feature, at a minimum, balconies or terraces,  TVs (Standard Rooms still have tube-style TVs), minibars, and individually controlled air-conditioning. Standard Rooms definitely look dated with solid-hued carpets, bright bedspreads with garish prints, and older, simple furniture typical to budget hotels. Renovated Superior units are considerably nicer with marble floors, gray- and pale-blue furniture and accents, and wall-mounted flat-screen TVs. They also add coffee- and tea-making facilities and slippers and bathrobes. Bathrooms feature shower/tub combos and hairdryers. Simple toiletries are provided.

There are also three royal Suites in the main building, each with its own dining area and separate balconies in the semi-divided living rooms and bedrooms. Decor in these rooms borders on executive, with lots of dark wood and brown- and cream-colored accents. Additional suite options include the Ambassador Suite, located amongst the Garden Studio Bungalows, with a separate bedroom and a luxe bathroom complete with a walk-in rainfall shower and separate whirlpool hot tub. There's also a Presidential Suite in the same complex, with a similar bathroom and a huge balcony with lounge chairs.
