Bottom Line

The 153-room Titanic Hotel Liverpool is an upscale property situated in a 19th-century warehouse in the up-and-coming Stanley Dock complex. Although there's not much immediately around the hotel now, the area is being developed and the city center is a 10-minute drive away. Rooms are spacious, modern, and chic, and are packed with charming historic features such as exposed brick walls and vaulted ceilings. They also offer modern amenities such as rainfall showers and coffeemakers. An on-site restaurant and rum bar are popular, as are the fitness center and spa. Both social and business gatherings make use of the events spaces. Travelers looking for an alternative renovated warehouse property could check out the Nadler Liverpool, which has lower rates but no on-site restaurant or bar.

Titanic Hotel Liverpool

Scene

Historic building packed with charm in low-key neighborhood, suitable for all sorts of travelers

This hotel is located in a four-story 19th-century brick warehouse that's packed with historic charm and character. Big stone columns mark the entrance into the property, and guests can park for free on the cobblestones in front of the hotel. Potted trees flank the glass front doors leading into the building. Inside, exposed brick ceilings, huge columns, and steel supports give an industrial feel to the lobby. Cushy sectionals provide a comfy place for guests to hang out. Hallways to guest rooms are wide and spacious. As throughout the hotel, artwork depicts images of the Titanic and the White Star Line. Although there are large windows, the lobby is a bit dim, as is the hotel overall. Occasional live music helps give the hotel some life, and celebrities are known to pass through as well. Overall, though, the atmosphere is quiet and laid-back, suitable for all sorts of travelers who appreciate history and don't mind being away from the city center.

Location

In renovated 19th-century warehouse complex, about a 10-minute drive from major attractions

This hotel is located in the historic Stanley Dock complex, a 19th-century shipping dock that specialized in the trade of tobacco and rum. It's been redeveloped and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's a quiet, industrialized area with old abandoned brick buildings throughout. There's not much in the immediate area around the hotel except a couple trendy bars and breweries within a five-minute walk. Guests can reach the attractions at Albert Dock in about 10 minutes by car, or 30 minutes by public transportation. The Moorsfield Train Station and the Liverpool Lime Street Station are both about a 10-minute drive from the hotel as well. John Lennon Airport is about 35 minutes away by car, or just under an hour by public transportation, and Manchester International Airport is about an hour away by car.

Rooms

Spacious rooms and suites with historic charm and modern amenities

Rooms and suites are spacious and loaded with historic charm, including exposed brick walls and vaulted ceilings. Color schemes feature a neutral palette of gray, beige, and brown, and furniture is medium-toned rustic wood. The herringbone patterns that we spotted in the flooring adds a particularly sharp dimension to the style. Modern amenities include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, safes, air-conditioning, proper coffeemakers, and electric kettles. Modern bathrooms come with granite countertops, rainfall showerheads, and upscale toiletries. Robes and slippers are provided. All rooms have benches at the foot of the bed, and some have sitting areas with leather sofas and chairs or dining tables. The Penthouse Suite has a separate living and dining area as well as a kitchenette with sink, stove top, and mini-fridge. Bathrooms have double sinks and separate soaking tubs and showers in higher-category rooms, though others have nice rainfall showers. Some rooms look out over the docks.

Features

Popular restaurant and bar, fitness center, full-service spa, events spaces, and free Wi-Fi

There are a number of features here, which is helpful as -- given the current state of the area's development -- there isn't too much nearby. Stanley's Bar & Grill serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus afternoon tea. It's in an open-concept space with exposed brick walls, high ceilings, and big columns. Quotes painted on the wall feature a maritime theme. Guests also can dine on the terrace overlooking the water. The Rum Bar serves drinks and casual meals in a cozy, welcoming space with plenty of comfy seating. There's occasional live music as well.

The Maya Blue Wellness Center is situated in the basement. Its fitness center is dimly lit, but well-equipped with cardio and weight-training machines, plus free weights and exercise balls. The spa offers a full menu of treatments, including massage, facials, body treatments, and salon services. There's also a hydrotherapy pool, though there's a fee to use it.

The two-level Rum Warehouse conference space can accommodate up to 1,000 people in one space for social and business events. Smaller spaces also are available for more intimate gatherings, and planners assist with the details. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. Parking is also free.
