This Citadines Prestige is an upscale six-floor hotel with 192 apartments on an attractive, historical (but busy) road in central London. A full 2010 renovation tastefully modernized interiors whilst maintaining a homey, relaxed vibe. Apartments are sleek and clean with kitchens and modern bathrooms -- though toiletries are wall-fixed in some. Despite the hotel's name, Covent Garden is a bit of a stroll away, though local transport links are excellent. Overall rates are standard for pricey central London, though a self-catering option means you can at least save on eating out.
Scene
Historical white-stone building with contemporary renovation
Housed in an historic apartment building, this Citadines Prestige aparthotel has an imposing white-stone period facade which overlooks a busy central street in London. Having undergone a full renovation in 2010, interiors are polished and contemporary, whilst maintaining a welcoming and homey character thanks to wood paneling and parquet floors. The neatly arranged lobby area extends out to a large, peaceful lounge furnished with plush geometric armchairs and large ceiling lanterns. The hotel tends to attract predominately business guests wanting more than just a bedroom for the night, and the odd tourist seeking apartment-style accommodation.
Location
Set on busy central London thoroughfare next to Chancery Lane Tube
The hotel is located on a busy road in central London's Holborn area, a minute walk from Chancery Lane tube station. The ever-popular 19th century market of Covent Garden is about a mile away, while the surrounding area offers a lot of old London pubs and architecture. The Barbican Arts Center, St. Paul's Cathedral, and the British Museum are all within a 15 minutes' walk, and the bustle of Oxford Street shopping and Soho nightlife are a couple stops away on the tube.
Rooms
Smart contemporary apartments with well-equipped kitchens
The hotel has 192 apartments spread over six floors, including studio apartments for up to two people, and one-bedroom apartments for up to four. Decor is smart and contemporary in fresh tones, with London-themed art and modern wood furnishings and flooring. All apartments are set up for self-catering with well-equipped kitchens, and also provide wired and wireless Internet (for free) and flat-screen TVs. Bathrooms are clean and contemporary, though many only offer wall-mounted toiletries. Club Studios, however, include high-end toiletries, daily breakfast, and iPod docks.
Features
Relaxing lounge area with free Wi-Fi and Internet corner
There's not a great amount of amenities on-site, but there is a small fitness room with free weights and cardiovascular machines, as well as a launderette and an Internet corner. The hotel lounge does provide a relaxing area to surf the free Wi-Fi, and those arriving by car have access to on-site parking (for a fee).
