Bottom Line

The mid-range Holiday Villa Hotel and Suites London is located near a metro stop and well-known Hyde Park in Bayswater. The 92 contemporary rooms have flat-screen TVs and kettles, but they aren’t all equipped with air-conditioning. Perks include a free breakfast, on-site spa, and an Asian restaurant. While this is a great pick in terms of price, location, and number of amenities, there have been enough complaints about staff, cleanliness issues, and overall quality to pause before booking. Travelers may want to consider MStay 27 Paddington Hotel for its modern design, air-conditioned rooms, and reliable Wi-Fi.

Scene

Hotel with a mix of traditional and Asian-inspired decor with some cleanliness issues

The Holiday Villa Hotel and Suites London sits across five traditional period town houses in Bayswater. With that in mind, there’s an expectation that the interior will feature traditional styles, and though it does in some places, there’s also a heavy Asian-influence and mix of contemporary styles which creates a hodge podge of decor and design. The sitting area includes a red velvet couch and floral rug, along with stained-glass behind the reception desk. The vibe is quiet and unpretentious, but maintenance issues and reportedly snappy staff detract from the experience. Couples, families, and friends sometimes trade in these drawbacks and book a stay for the price and location.

Location

Six-minute walk to Hyde Park

The best thing this hotel has going for it is its location. Hyde Park: home of Kensington Palace, Diana Memorial Playground, and Serpentine Gallery is just a six-minute walk away. Portobello Market is a 24-minute walk from the property. Though one could cut through Hyde Park to reach Buckingham Palace, it’s about a 45-minute walk. There's a metro station that's a six-minute walk from the hotel and the Bayswater neighborhood is lined with restaurants, pubs, pharmacies, and banks. It's a 35-minute drive to Heathrow Airport.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with flat-screen TVs, kettles, and free (spotty) Wi-Fi

There are a wide variety of options between the 92 rooms here, ranging from tiny Singles to spacious suites. Singles and the Royal Suite have dated decor, while Doubles, Twins, Triples, and Family Suites feature a more contemporary, charming look. Even then, there’s been a lot of complaints about the states of rooms from stained carpet to peeling wallpaper to visible wear on the furniture. All rooms feature flat-screen TVs and kettles. Mini-fridges are provided in many rooms. First-floor rooms have wood flooring and built-in air-conditioning, while the remaining floors of room do not. Bathrooms come in a variety of states: some are clean and chic with glass showers and waterfall showerheads. Others are basic with white tiles and shower/tub combos. Past guests have reported mold and faulty drains. The Wi-fi signal is so poor that guests often can’t get a signal in their rooms.

Features

Spa, Asian restaurant, and business center

Holiday Villa Hotel and Suites London is a straightforward property with a few extras that usually aren't found at mid-range hotels. The hotel has a spa with an Asian-themed decor, sauna, and Thai massages. Guests receive a discount for treatments. The restaurant serves mainly Malaysian and Chinese cuisine with some English and international favorites mixed in. It's known for weekend buffets and cocktails. A breakfast of cold items, pastries, and cereals is offered in the mornings and included in room rates, but guests have complained about low quality ingredients and dirty plates. Business amenities include two meeting rooms, free Wi-Fi, and a fee to use the lobby computer and printer.
