Access to the O2 Arena can be awkward
First and foremost, this hotel's location makes it ill-suited to those wanting to explore central London. Its riverside setting provides pleasant views of the Thames and easy access to Canary Wharf, but even getting to the O2 Arena opposite can prove tricky. The hotel itself is impressive -- sleek and contemporary with spacious rooms offering excellent technology and amenities. The on-site restaurant and spa are also definitely worth a look. If you'd rather be south of the river, and want to save some money, check out the Holiday Inn Express London - Greenwich.
Scene
Sleek, contemporary vibe with modern arty touches
WIth its elegantly curving twin facades, the Radisson Blu Edwardian New Providence Wharf Hotel blends well with its surrounds of new-build office blocks and high-end condominiums. Stepping inside, the lobby atrium is impressively airy and bright, with large windows and high ceilings. The mood is sleek and minimal, brimming with metal and glass paneling, funky leather furnishings, and quirky, contemporary sculpture -- most prominently two porcelain stags sitting about nonchalantly. Clientele leans towards on-the-road executives and high-end travelers keen to escape the city center or in town for a show at the nearby O2 Arena.
Location
Riverside hotel opposite the O2 Arena and close to Canary Wharf
The hotel is situated on a quiet curve overlooking the River Thames, right next to the Canary Wharf area of east London. The O2 Arena is directly across the river, although getting there can be a little awkward -- an underground trip across the Thames from Canary Wharf station, followed by a transfer at North Greenwich station. It's not an ideal base for exploring the capital's center either -- access to the train system is a little tricky and then at least a half-hour journey. For those with business in the Canary Wharf business district, however, the hotel offers a free shuttle service there and back.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with high-end tech and ultra modern bathrooms
The hotel has 169 rooms, all of which offer plenty of space and large windows, some overlooking the river. Decor is contemporary and stylish, with the signature Radisson velvet bed throws and scatter cushions in bright colors, along with smart, design-conscious furnishings. In-room tech is impressive, with free Wi-Fi and Bang & Olufsen TVs with entertainment systems and satellite channels. Ultra modern bathrooms feature wet-rooms with separate shower and tub, high-end toiletries, and bidets. Some bathtubs are freestanding with views over the Thames.
Features
Restaurant and bar with terrace overlooking the Thames
The hotel's first-floor East River Spa offers a wide range of treatments and facilities, including a stone oven sauna, crystal steam room, and relaxation room overlooking the river. A fitness club in also attached, with the latest exercise machines in an attractive, curved space. The on-site Scoff & Banter restaurant provides an excellent menu of modern British cooking overlooking the Thames, from an outdoor covered terrace during warmer weather. Its cocktail bar also provides a relaxing space to enjoy a drink in low-lit, contemporary surrounds. A free shuttle service is available to and from Canary Wharf, and a range of business services are also on offer. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.
