The Dixie Hollywood is a pet-friendly,
70-room mid-range hotel on busy Hollywood Boulevard with restaurants, a grocery
store, and the metro within walking distance. Top attractions like Universal Studios Hollywood, are also less
than a 10-minute drive away. Rooms are modern with wood floors, recessed
lighting, and hand-painted Hollywood-themed murals as well as microwaves,
mini-fridges, and coffeemakers. Guests complain of wear and tear marks on the
furniture, however, along with loud exterior noise and lack of desk space. The
lovely, seasonal outdoor pool has ample seating and lots of greenery. Free
Wi-Fi and parking are available as well.
Scene
A small hotel that feels larger than it is with a classic Hollywood vibe
Even though The Dixie Hollywood is a small
property, it feels big with open-air hallways and an open-concept design. A classic
Hollywood feel flows through the updated lobby, which has colorful accents,
wood and tile floors, and pictures of classic movie stars. Free newspapers are also
available and big windows help the space stay well lit. The property has a
quiet, happy atmosphere, with hand-painted murals on exterior doors and walls.
This hotel used to have an on-site restaurant, 54Twenty, but it permanently
closed in 2015.
Location
On Hollywood Boulevard, where many attractions are less than a 10-minute drive away
The Dixie Hollywood is on bustling
Hollywood Boulevard, with Ralph’s grocery store across the street. The metro,
restaurants, shops, and Barnsdall Art Park are less than a 15-minute walk from
the hotel while the Hollywood Bowl, Universal Studios Hollywood, TCL Chinese
Theatre, and the Hollywood Walk of Fame are less than a 10-minute drive away. The
Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory are also about 10 minutes away by car. Bob Hope Airport is a 20- to 25-minute drive northwest while Los
Angeles International Airport is about a 35-minute drive southwest.
Rooms
Stylish units include microwaves, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and gorgeous murals
Air-conditioned contemporary rooms feature red bed runners, wood floors, and recessed lighting as well as turquoise
armchairs for extra seating. Alpaca headboards and crown molding also decorate
the space, and beautiful hand-painted Hollywood-themed murals are presented in
all rooms. Flat-screen TVs are mounted to walls while mini-fridges,
microwaves, and coffeemakers are housed inside dark wood furnishings. Guests
mention that some furniture has wear and tear marks and that desks --
which are really small floating shelves – are hard to use. Additionally, some
rooms get loud exterior noise. Modern gray tile bathrooms include shower/tub
combos, updated vanities, and sufficient lighting. Natural Mist toiletries and
hairdryers are provided.
Features
Seasonal outdoor pool plus free Wi-Fi, parking, and pet-friendly policy
The seasonal outdoor pool is a highlight for most guests and is surrounded by plenty of lounge seating as well as three shaded cabanas added after our visit. Potted plants and greenery cover the area with a drink machine in the corner. Concierge services and car rentals are offered on-site in addition to laundry facilities, and there’s free parking and Wi-Fi. (Guests have complained however that the Wi-Fi signal is weak with slow speed.) This hotel is pet-friendly, but visitors should inquire beforehand about policies as only two dogs or cats under 25 pounds are allowed per room.Additionally, room service has limited hours and items, and there’s no on-site fitness center or restaurant.
