Tryp Madrid Alameda Aeropuerto Hotel

Part of the Melia hotel group, the Tryp Madrid Alameda Aeropuerto is a contemporary hotel catering to transit and business travelers. Interiors are generic and functional, with recessed lighting, cookie-cutter wooden furniture with clean lines, and navy carpeting on hallways. But the style feels for the most part up-to-date, and everything is kept in good shape and clean. Big windows in the restaurant and meeting rooms offer views of an attractive courtyard with a few tables, lounge furniture, and lots of plants. Guests gather there for breakfast and in the late afternoon when the weather is nice, and it can also be used as a coffee break area during corporate events. Although the hotel draws almost exclusively travelers needing to be in close range of the airport, its comfortable rooms and proximity to the metro make it a decent option for those with a little bit more time in town as well. 

The hotel is located on a quiet street in Barajas neighborhood, a residential area across the M-14 highway from Adolfo Suarez Madrid-Barajas Airport. There are several public gardens in the area, and although there are no major attractions within a 30-minute metro ride from the hotel, a few restaurants and bars can be found in the surrounding area. Barajas Metro stop, which is served by the airport line (and also goes into the city center) is about a 10-minute walk away. Historic sights such as the Royal Palace, La Almudena Cathedral, and Plaza Mayor are all about a 45-minute Metro ride, or a half-hour drive away. The hotel is a five-minute drive from Terminals 1, 2, and 3, and 10 minutes from Terminal 4. IFEMA fair grounds can be reached in a bout five minutes by car. Tryp Madrid Alameda Aeropuerto offers 24-hour free shuttle service to the airport.

The hotel’s 148 rooms are decorated in a classic, albeit generic, style that combines simple wooden furniture with clean lines and soothing earth tones throughout. Although the decor style isn’t exciting or chic, everything is clean and well-maintained, and rooms are comfortable and pleasant, with big work desks and closets. All rooms have big windows, and many feature furnished balconies overlooking the gardens or the street. Carpeting keeps noise mostly at bay, though some rooms do pick up street noise. Standard amenities include free Wi-Fi, 32-inch LCD TVs, minibars, air-conditioning, and safes big enough for laptops. All but Standard Rooms have electric kettles and custom-made Dreamax mattresses, and most also have separate living areas. Family Rooms are equipped with bunk beds, and Fitness Rooms have treadmills or ellipticals. Rust-colored marble bathrooms are spacious and clean, and feature hairdryers, hotel-brand toiletries, bidets, and shower/tub combos with glass screens.

The restaurant serves buffet-style breakfast and dinner in a spacious, light dining room with big windows and direct access to the garden. The morning spread is varied and tasty, but most guests find dinner overpriced and bland. Burgers, pizzas, salads, and sandwiches are available at the snack bar in the afternoon, along with pastries, desserts, and an array of cocktails. Room service is available until late at night. 

The 24-hour fitness center is small, but it has enough cardio and strength-training machines for a quick workout. The hotel also features seven meeting rooms, all with a full range of audiovisual equipment and most with natural light. The garden can be used for corporate or private events, including coffee breaks and receptions. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. There's a fee for underground parking, but it's free outdoors.
