The Vanity Suites Hotel is a four-pearl, adult-only property in the tiny coastal village of Cala Mesquida. The town’s attractive beach is a five-minute ramble along a rickety wooden bridge over the sand dunes, but there's little of note in the village itself. That said, relaxation is the name of the game at this hotel, with an outdoor pool and hot tub, a garden strewn with hammocks and Balinese beds, and a spa with treatment rooms and hydrotherapy pools, as well as a generous all-inclusive package for the well-reviewed buffet restaurant. The 189 suites are spacious and well-equipped with amenities, but their furniture and linens feel dated. Guests looking for a similar, but less isolated, hotel might want to try the Be Live Adults Only La Cala, over near Palma.
Scene
Attractive adult-only hotel that looks like a Majorcan villa with rambling grounds
The Vanity Suites Hotel is a classy affair built in the manner of a traditional Majorcan villa. Large windows let natural light into the huge, airy lobby with a shiny checkered marble floor and high vaulted ceiling that dwarfs the couches arranged along one side of the room. The restaurant has a terrace that overlooks the pool terrace and the garden, which is easily the property's most attractive feature, providing paths that meander around lush bushes and grottos with fountains. Out by the pool is a more open area, with hammocks dangling from cypress trees and Balinese beds sitting out on a verdant lawn. Being an adult-only property, the hotel attracts couples looking to get away from it all.
Location
In the tiny village of Cala Mesquida, with a golden sandy beach only five minutes away
The Vanity Suites Hotel is set in the tiny village of Cala Mesquida, on the less-developed eastern coast of Majorca. Although the village itself is light on entertainment, bars, and restaurants, the town’s golden-sand beach is only a five-minute walk along a picturesque wooden footbridge that rises above the sand dunes. The nearest sizable town is Arta, a 15-minute drive away, or a half-hour by bus. Palma is a 60- to 90-minute drive away, across the island, and it’s 75 to 85 minutes by car to Palma Airport.
Rooms
Well-appointed rooms with king-sized beds and furnished terraces, but old-fashioned decor
The 189 suites are elegant in an old-fashioned way -- think shades of peach, striped-fabric headboards, and light-wood furniture -- which guests will either find quaint or dated. Still, all are spacious, and have memory foam mattresses on king-sized beds and fully furnished terraces. Junior Suites are the smallest rooms, with open-plan sleeping and living areas hived off from one another by sideboards that double as TV stands. Executive Suites are the largest rooms, with separate living spaces housing couches and desks. Royal Suites are the same size as Junior Suites, but each of these has the notable addition of a flight of stairs leading to a rooftop terrace with Balinese bed, couch, and loungers. Brown-tiled bathrooms have dual sinks, bidets, and a tub with hydrotherapy jets. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, safes, and mini-fridges, as well as a pod coffee machines and free Wi-Fi.
Features
All-inclusive package, buffet breakfast and dinner, and outdoor pool
The Vanity Suites Hotel is geared toward couples seeking relaxation near the beach. Outside, there's a large garden with rambling paths around hidden grottos, and a lawn with Balinese beds and hammocks swinging between cypress trees. Also here is the large freeform pool with a separate hot tub and ample cushioned loungers on the deck. A spa offers treatment rooms for massages and wellness therapies, and a hydrotherapy pool. There are bikes that can be rented, as well as ping-pong and a giant outdoor chess set. The well-equipped gym has a small number of cardio and weight-training equipment. The hotel offers a generous all-inclusive package that includes wine. Guests love the food at the hotel’s restaurant, which does buffet breakfast and dinner, and a la carte lunches. The pool bar serves drinks, snacks, and light meals throughout the day. A conference room can accommodate 80 people. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel.
