The exterior of the building could easily be mistaken for an upmarket apartment complex. The three-tiered architecture mixes stucco and laminate wood stacks for a mostly contemporary look. Inside, the decor is bold and bright. The white-on-white hallways and common areas are punctuated with Afro-Caribbean-colored linens and throw pillows. IKEA-style furnishings share space with Balinese and Asian accents in a way that’s quirky and fun. The lack of delineation between the beach, pool, and restaurant/bar creates a single, large social space that’s lively throughout the day. As the sun goes down, the action moves to the third-floor cocktail lounge where generous happy hours and pulsing DJ music attract a young-ish crowd looking for a scene that’s lively, but not too rowdy.

Mont Choisy is one of Mauritius’ most tourist-friendly areas. It’s popular and bustling by Mauritian standards, but relatively quiet overall. A 10-minute walk north or south will take guests passed dozens of restaurants, shops, and other boutique hotels (many with their own restaurants and bars). Ten minutes north by car lies Grand Baie, an equally popular tourist district with more beaches, restaurants, a casino, and a modern supermarket. The hotel is on the opposite side of the island from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) -- one hour away. No airport transportation is provided, however, taxis are inexpensive and easy to arrange.

Room decor is bright and contemporary. Tasteful decorative accents like well-placed pops of color, geometric nightstands and throw rugs, and large globe lamps all add hints of interest. Every room category is based on a 376-square-foot (35-square-meter) studio floor plan. Small, private balconies, some with ocean views, add a bit more floor space. Essential amenities like flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning are standard. All rooms include mini-fridges and wet bars, while some add microwaves and Nespresso coffeemakers. Wi-Fi is only available in the common areas, namely the lobby and restaurant. Bathrooms are modestly sized. Slate flooring, rain showerheads, and vessel sinks elevate the aesthetic. Glass shower stalls, wall-mounted hairdryers, and generic hand soap are standard. 

The rear of the hotel features a three-tiered social space that overlooks the water and houses most of the feature. On the bottom floor is an airy restaurant with free buffet breakfast daily. A la carte lunch and dinner menus are a mix of tourist-friendly food and local cuisine, which all garner mixed reviews. The dining area overlooks the infinity pool which blends seamlessly into an outdoor lounge area with couches and bean bag chairs just feet from the Indian Ocean.

Atop the restaurant, a small lounge space offers seating for a dozen guests. Several cabinets house books and board games for guests to play with. Just upstairs on the top floor is an intimate, open-air cocktail lounge with panoramic ocean views and a light snack menu. The space is lively, especially once the sun goes down.

The patch of sand at the rear of the hotel is too small to qualify as a usable beach. The hotel doesn't provide seating or any other facilities here. Instead, guests are encouraged to head to the adjacent Mont Choisy Beach which is public and beautiful -- among the best in Mauritius.

Free Wi-Fi is available in every common area, including by the pool, though we found the service unreliable. Self-parking is free in a staffed, gated lot.
