With a location that’s far enough from Boston, yet close to Medford’s retail center, the three pearl Hyatt Place Medford is affordable and convenient to nearby restaurants, cafes, and services. Although it lacks an airport shuttle, the hotel offers free area shuttle service with pickup available at a nearby subway station. The list of free amenities is excellent: Wi-Fi, 24-hour fitness center, underground parking, and a hot breakfast buffet. The all-suites design also provides spacious rooms with nice-to-have amenities like a wet bar, mini-fridge, separate seating area, and comfortable beds, though bathrooms are tiny.
Scene
Executive-style hotel with just enough modern design flourishes
The hotel’s look is
clean and contemporary with a general executive vibe that seems aimed at young
business travelers. The lobby is bright and open with a decor that includes
polished wood veneer, modern glass sculptures, shiny faux leather seats, and
bold accent chairs. The addition of a curved cafe/bar within the open concept lobby
adds a touch of vibrancy and conviviality to the atmosphere. It feels more like
walking into a modern restaurant than a typical hotel foyer.
Location
Easily accessible to downtown Medford by foot or via free shuttle
Medford’s small town center is within a 10-minute walk from
the hotel or just a few minutes via the free area shuttle. The downtown hub
offers a number of restaurants, ATMs, cafes, and a post office. While the hotel is only
eight miles from Boston’s Logan International Airport, it’s an expensive ride
via taxi and no direct airport shuttle is available. However, guests can take
the Orange Line subway to the Wellington station and arrange for pickup via the
hotel’s area shuttle. Downtown Boston is easily reachable in 30 minutes by the
Orange Line or through free transfers to any of the city’s other three subway
lines.
Rooms
Spacious suites feature wet bars, mini-fridges, large flat-screen TVs, and comfortable beds
The modern design
aesthetic continues from the lobby to every room. Large mirrors, crisp white
linens, cherry furniture, brushed nickel lamps, and stone countertops all
contribute to a contemporary and slightly upscale decor. The overall fit and
finish feels more luxurious than similarly rated three pearl hotels. As an all-suites hotel,
the Hyatt Medford offers just two room types – King Suite or Double Queen Suite.
All rooms are generously sized with a dedicated work space and separate seating
area with a partial room divider. The latter features a spacious couch that can
serve as an additional sleep space, providing accommodations for up to five in
the Double Queen Suites. Both room types provide wet bars, mini-refrigerators,
and 42-inch flat-screen TVs with a digital hub that allows guests to play their
own media directly from a laptop. Accessible rooms are also available with
identical amenities plus handicap accessible showers and bathrooms. The bathrooms feature a
split-design, with the sink area open to the bedroom and separate from the
shower and toilet. While this provides more privacy for the toilet area, it
also means the area in and around the shower feels somewhat cramped. An “Odds
and Ends” menu of toiletries and essentials is available for guests who’ve
forgotten something.As the hotel is
located adjacent to route I-93, some travelers complain of light road noise.
The location also means that all rooms offer plain, non-descript views of the
surrounding suburban area.
Features
Free Wi-Fi, garage parking, 24-hour room service, and a well-reviewed breakfast buffet
The Hyatt Place Medford offers
a number of free amenities, including free Wi-Fi throughout and a decent
fitness center with Life Fitness equipment available 24/7. The large, heated
indoor pool and ample underground parking are also nice additions, particularly
during cold New England winters.A dining area just off
the lobby serves a free breakfast buffet that’s well-reviewed with a better
than average selection of items. Hot oatmeal, eggs, fresh fruit, and waffles,
among other items, are all included. The dining area is quite large, but past guests have complained that it can become crowded. While there is no full
service restaurant on-site, the lobby cafe offers a good variety of salads,
pastries, snacks, flatbreads, Starbucks coffee, and other drinks to go. The
same Gallery menu is also available for room service 24 hours a day. The cafe counter is touted as a “Coffee to Cocktails” bar that serves beer, wine, and
cocktails from the afternoon on. The open concept lobby also provides plenty of
intimate seating areas with couches, dining tables, and bar stools. While the property is pet-friendly
for up to two dogs, the additional fee is pricey compared to similar hotels.
Discounts are available for extended stay guests however. For guests traveling
without a laptop, the business center offers three workstations including 2 PCs
and a Mac. A printer is also available for boarding passes and other small
documents. Self-service kiosks are also provided to expedite the
check-in/check-out processes.
