The 25-room Crescent Resort On South Beach is a mid-range Art Deco boutique on Ocean Drive across from Lummus Park and the palm-shaded beach. It has an appealing list of features, including a rooftop terrace with sea views, a small gym, concierge services, and an ATM. One- and two-bedroom suites and a penthouse have flat-screen TVs, kitchens, and whirlpool tubs, but decor can be on the plain side (though artistic details such as colorful paintings and blue accent walls are nice touches). Wi-Fi is available throughout, and included in the resort fee. More upscale hotels can be found in South Beach in this price range, but without the Crescent's in-room kitchens.
Scene
Mid-range Miami Beach boutique with a rooftop sundeck
The Crescent Resort On South Beach is a four story, affordably priced hotel with Art Deco designs, neon light details, and porthole windows that blend into the lively Miami setting. Cushioned patio furniture is on the front porch, overlooking the palm-shaded park and beach across Ocean Drive, with tourists in beach clothing cruising by. Built in 1938, the hotel’s interior designs are retro, matching the red and green leather furniture in the lobby. A flat-screen TV, coffee station, mounted ATM machine, and elevator are by the front desk. There’s a lounge area surrounded by windows, with a dining table, a water cooler, and stools near the staircase. Hallways are clean with carpeting and white walls. Panoramic views of Ocean Drive and the sea can be seen from the rooftop terrace, where there’s casual lounge chairs and end tables. The atmosphere overall is relaxed, if not particularly stylish.
Location
On Ocean Drive, across from the sandy beach shores
This SoBe hotel is located on Ocean Drive, across the street from Lummus Park, the boardwalk, the beach shores, and a short walk to Miami Beach Parasail. A block away is the popular Front Porch Cafe, a Haagen-Dazs, a liquor store, and a Starbucks. Miami hot spots like Mansion and Dream Nightclub are in walking distance. The Eighth Street Designer District is 17 minutes away by car. The AmericanAirlines Arena, home to the Miami Heat, is 15 minutes away by car. It’s a 28-minute drive to the Miami International Airport. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a 50-minute drive.
Rooms
Comfy, spacious suites feature flat-screen TVs, safes, living rooms, and kitchens
Colorful artwork, neutral tile floors, light wood furniture, and classic furnishings are in one- and two-bedroom suites and penthouses. Some furnishings are dated. Kitchens have refrigerators, two-burner stove tops, tea kettles, dishwashers, microwaves, coffeemakers, blenders, and toasters. Living rooms offer sofa beds and rotating tube TVs. Features also include DVD players, board games, beach towels, safes, irons, windows facing other buildings or the streets, and small flat-screen TVs in bedrooms. Two-bedroom suites have two bathrooms. Bathrooms feature shower/tub combos with whirlpool jets. Modern penthouses have access to the rooftop terrace with ocean views. Cribs are available for a fee. Prices may strike some as a bit high for a mid-range hotel, but big, family-friendly spaces with kitchens are rare in South Beach. The similarly priced Alexander All-Suite Oceanfront Resort is another option with kitchens, but it's in quieter North Beach.
