The Fashion Boutique Hotel underwent mild renovations in 2016, but remains a 48-room, mid-range concept hotel on the south end of South Beach. The changes included sprucing up the terrace and adding a rooftop deck. Otherwise, the property lacks common on-site amenities like a restaurant, bar, and gym, though a continental breakfast is offered for an extra fee. The property's best features are its statement-making decor and proximity to the beach and clubs. All units have AC, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and iPod docks, though they're small, and past guests have complained about noise. Travelers looking for upscale digs in the pulsing heart of South Beach might consider Angler's Miami South Beach, a Kimpton Hotel.
Scene
Statement-making concept hotel catering to the party crowd
The Fashion Boutique Hotel (formerly Fashionhaus) is housed in a 1939 Art Deco building, with a bold, black-and-white tile terrace and bright red accents. Inside, the color palette remains the same, and there's oversize fashion photos on walls, chrome and glass tables, mannequin lamps, and mod artwork. The playful look is made for snapping selfies, but while this space is often busy, the real party takes place on the rooftop deck. Though there's no restaurant or bar, there is music, and it's the main spot for guests to congregate before or after a night out. The deck's white loungers, tables, and umbrellas are in various states of cleanliness or disrepair, depending on when you visit it. Overall, the 2016 interior remodeling of this historic building freshened up the look and added features to appeal to its younger, party-hardy clientele.
Location
Prime spot in South Beach, a few blocks from the sand and hotspots
The hotel is situated on busy Washington Ave. on the south end of South Beach, just a six-minute walk from the ocean. Collins Ave. and Ocean Drive are within a three-minute walk. While the hotel is not quite in the thick of the pulsing, neon, nightclub scene, a quick jaunt north will take guests past all that South Beach is known for: nightclubs, bars, touristy restaurants, shopping, and Art Deco heritage buildings. - 14-minute walk to Versace Mansion
Rooms
Small rooms that are notoriously thin-walled, but there are some nice touches
Fashion Boutique's guest rooms are uniquely laid out and decorated, but the same black, white, and red color palette and "fashion" concept found in common spaces carries over. Gray walls are adorned with huge fashion photos, white sheets are topped in red velour blankets and accent pillows, and floors are a dark-wood laminate. Furniture is streamline -- simple, black stools in lieu of desk chairs, basic wood dressers, and small beside tables.Standard amenities include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars, iPod docks, safes, irons and ironing boards, and free Wi-Fi. The Fashion Suite adds a seating area, sink, microwave, and coffeemaker. Bathrooms are attractive enough but small, featuring walk-in showers or shower/tub combos and glass basin sinks, and come equipped with hairdryers and toiletries. Units are bright but tiny, from 160 to 230 square feet. Suite upgrades double the space at 460 square feet and also break from the color palette with trendy teals and golds. The walls are thin, and rooms are subject to street noise as well as sounds from adjoining rooms and hallway racket. It's worth noting that the hotel's policy states that noise-free guest rooms cannot be guaranteed. Some guests have reported that even their in-room AC is noisy.
Features
Buzzy outdoor terrace and rooftop lounge, but few other features
The hotel has a ground-level terrace and a rowdy rooftop deck. A continental breakfast is available for an extra charge (it's mostly bread and baked goods), as is Nespresso in the lobby. The main perk here is the prime South Beach location, and the hotel will provide free towels to use for the beach. Wi-Fi is also free. There's no on-site parking, but valet parking is offered for an extra daily charge.
