Bottom Line

The 174-room Regency Hotel Miami is a mid-range, family-friendly airport hotel with classic decor, same day laundry/dry cleaning services, airport transfers, a rental car desk, an outdoor pool, and casual dining and cocktails. Traditional rooms have flat-screen TVs and some come with wet bars and balconies overlooking the city. However, some room furnishings appear worn, and past guests have complained of noise from airplanes flying overhead. Overall, this is a more stylish option than competitive chains, with all the conveniences of an airport hotel.

Scene

Stylish decor, a serene pool, and on-site dining and cocktails

The six-floor Regency's tall ceilings, marble floors, skylights, conservatory windows, and white columns in the lobby create a grand first impression. Flavored water at the front desk is a nice welcoming perk. Classic furnishings -- including comfy sofas, red accent walls, leather chairs, and a silver suitcase-shaped coffee table -- create a homey atmosphere in the lobby. There’s also a boarding pass kiosk with a printer. Although the hotel's main clientele are airport transit passengers, the Regency's close proximity to the Port of Miami and long-term parking deals also attracts cruise ship travelers.

Location

Near the Miami International Airport and next to a seafood restaurant

The Regency Hotel Miami is a seven-minute drive to the Miami International Airport. The surrounding area is isolated and not ideal for walking, although Catch of the Day seafood restaurant is right next door. Coral Gables takes 20 minutes by car to reach, while driving to South Beach takes 16 minutes. A car trip to the Everglades National Park is just short of an hour away. Both the Port of Miami and the Dolphin Mall take around 15 minutes to reach by car. On-site parking is free and the hotel offers free 24-hour shuttle service to the airport, the Dolphin Mall, and the Miami International Mall, and can drop guests at the Port of Miami for a fee.

Rooms

Traditionally decorated rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, some with pool-facing balconies

The Regency Hotel offers a variety of rooms and suites, including handicap accessible rooms. The decor is classic, and features blue patterned carpeting, light-wood furniture, and earth-tone color schemes, although some furnishings look worn. Features include safes, bathrobes and slippers, irons, iPod docks, newspapers, mini-fridges, and small coffeemakers. Bathrooms are basic but well-lit, with ample counter space and shower/tub combos. Upgraded rooms have balconies with pool views and whirlpool bathtubs. King Suites feature two balconies, two bathrooms, living rooms with sofa beds, and wet bars, plus free breakfast and a welcome cocktails.

Features

Three meeting rooms, a club venue, a pool, a gym, and an on-site bar and restaurant

There are three meeting rooms -- the Gables Room, with a ballroom ceiling, Le Jeune Room, and the Board Room with a conference desk and a flat-screen TV; rooms can fit up to 250 people. Le Club fits up to 320 people and features a stage and a dance floor. The pool deck can also be rented out. A 24-hour business corner has two PCs and an Apple computer and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. The charming pool is encircled by lush foliage, which creates an atmosphere that feels secluded. The brown tiled pool deck offers a wheelchair lift, brown lounge chairs, and picnic tables with umbrellas. A small 24-hour gym offers modern cardio equipment and free weights. Prieto’s Restaurant is spacious and traditionally decorated with a dining area that offers pool views and a white grand piano. There's also a bar at the back of the lobby with additional tables, chairs, and a flat-screen TV in a lounge area. The hotel's gift shop, Veronica’s Secret, sells jewelry, accessories, and sundries.
