Oyster Hotel Review
Best Western Plus Canyonlands Inn
Comfy value hotel with southwestern charm and a patio with scenic views
The Best Western Plus Canyonlands is a centrally located two-story Moab chain hotel with a predominantly red-brick exterior. The lobby is sunny, with traditional southwestern furnishings and decor and a coffee counter with a microwave. The lounge area has a couple of chairs and a brown leather sofa and there's a stairway and a single elevator connecting the lobby with the upper levels. Hallways are dimly lit and have pinewood wall paneling. On the second floor, there's a patio with a wooden-beamed roof that's furnished with tables, cushioned lounge chairs, and a fire pit. The hotel appeals to families and couples who want a reasonably priced hotel near the area’s popular hiking trails. Rates, though, can be pricey at peak season.
In the heart of downtown Moab, near Arches National Park
The inn is centrally located on south Main Street in central Moab, near shops, restaurants, and gas stations. It’s a one-minute walk to the Moab Information Center. The Valley Shopping Center is a five-minute walk away. The Moab Golf Club takes 10 minutes to reach by car. The area is full of opportunities for outdoor activities, including river rafting, mountain biking, hiking, and rock climbing. The hotel is just off Highway 191, an eight-minute drive to Arches National Park and a 35-minute drive to Canyonlands National Park. Driving to Dead Horse Point State Park takes 40 minutes, while Zion National Park is a five-hour drive.
Traditionally decorated rooms plus suites with kitchenettes, and whirlpool tubs
The rooms and suites at the Best Western have homey decor, dark wood furniture, and scenic photography of the surrounding area, although the parking-lot views from the in-room windows are less than spectacular. Features include flat-screen TVs, coffeemakers, irons/ironing boards, mini-fridges, and air-conditioning. Classic bathrooms offer shower/tub combos and separate sink/vanity areas. Suites have sitting areas, most of which come with sofa beds. Presidential Suites have two flat-screen TVs, whirlpool tubs, full kitchens with stoves and ovens, living rooms, and dining tables. The Family Suite has a faux-leather sectional sofa, a fireplace, and a kitchenette with a fridge, a toaster, a microwave, and a tiny sink. ADA accessible rooms are also available.
Free buffet breakfast, laundry facilities, business corner, pool, hot tubs, playground, and gym
The hotel’s breakfast room offers lots of chairs and tables, ensuring that all guests can find a seat in the morning for a free -- but limited -- continental breakfast buffet. Warm wooden cabinets and classic furniture creates a welcoming atmosphere. A door leads out to the second floor patio, where guests can dine and take in the Moab scenery in the distance.
The seasonal outdoor pool offers a stylish brick deck with tables and chairs along with padded lounge chairs. There are also two whirlpool hot tubs. The hotel also has a sandy fenced-in playground with two picnic tables and a small lawn. The modern gym is open 24 hours and offers modern cardio and weight-training equipment. There's also a bicycle repair shop and a free indoor bike storage room.
Other features include a 24-hour laundry with coin-operated washers and dryers and a business corner in the lobby, which has two computers for guest use. Wi-Fi and parking are free and the hotel stocks pots of free coffee in the lobby throughout the day.
