Oyster Hotel Review
Hampton Inn & Suites Mobile/Downtown
A lovely chain hotel in the heart of downtown Mobile’s historic district
This stately and modern hotel curves around a block in Mobile’s historic district in the heart of downtown. Located only five minutes from the city’s lovely riverfront convention center, it attracts business travelers and tourists who want to stay downtown. The light beige-tile floors at the entrance lead to a large white registration desk. The tile gives way to an intricately patterned carpet in a homey breakfast area. It resembles the parlor of a traditional southern home, with a fireplace and oversized upholstered armchairs in brown and rust patterns. Nice upholstered sofas with brown leather seats rest under banks of windows and drapes with rust and green stripes. The space is bright and cheerful, thanks to a bank of windows in the two-story ceiling and lots of tables and chairs.
In the heart of downtown Mobile’s historic district, within walking distance of many attractions
This Hampton Inn is located in the heart of downtown Mobile’s historic district, within a brief walk of numerous restaurants and many of the city’s most popular attractions. Bienville Square and the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center & IMAX Theater both take three minutes to reach on foot. The Fort Conde Museum, Cooper Riverside Park, and the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center are five minutes away on foot, while the Mobile Cruise Terminal and Mobile Civic Center are 10 minutes on foot. The U.S.S. Alabama on Mobile Bay is a six-minute drive, and Bellingrath Gardens and Home and the Mobile Regional Airport are approximately half an hour away by car.
Clean and tastefully decorated rooms with microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, and free Wi-Fi
Decor at this property is typical of a Hampton Inn, with tasteful furnishings in light earth tones and white walls, drapes, and bedding. The patterned carpet is tan and light gray, which coordinates with reddish brown furniture. Black ergonomic office chairs sit under the desks, and lap desks are provided for working in bed. Framed artwork of Mobile scenes decorates the walls.
Standard amenities include microwaves, mini-fridges, 32-inch flat screen TVs, and coffeemakers. Bathrooms are nicely sized with shower/tub combos, beige-and-white patterned wallpaper, and reddish-brown vanities with tan granite tops that offer plenty of room for personal items. Neutrogena toiletries are provided and all come with magnifying mirrors. Suites have vanities right outside the bathrooms.
The Standard King or Double Queen Rooms are clean and have comfortable beds and ample space, but are not overly spacious. The King and Double Queen Suites are much larger and add sleeper sofas and wet bars with tan granite tops. Many also have small balconies that include chairs and tables and afford sweeping views of downtown Mobile and the Mobile River.
Free hot breakfast, on-site chain restaurant, laundry facilities, pool, fitness center, on-site parking
This downtown hotel has typical Hampton amenities. The free hot breakfast buffet gets rave reviews from guests for the quality and variety of selections. It includes grab-and-go sandwiches for guests without time for a sit-down meal. Free coffee, tea, water, and weekday newspapers are available in the lobby 24/7, and there's a 24-hour convenience store that sells sundries, snacks, drinks, and frozen entrees. A Jimmy John’s sandwich shop also is located inside the hotel and offers delivery to rooms.
The spacious and well-equipped fitness center has several cardio and weight-training machines as well as free weights. The outdoor saltwater pool is a bit small, but it’s surrounded by walls to create a cozy courtyard setting with comfortable lounge chairs, tables, and a fountain. Parking is just behind the hotel and reasonably priced for a downtown property. Unlimited in and out privileges are included in the daily parking fee.
Meeting space for up to 60 people is available, and the 24-hour business center has Internet access and printers. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. Valet laundry and dry-cleaning services are available for guests who don't want to do their own laundry at the on-site self-service laundry facilities.
