Scene

Peaceful, traditional Riad full of authentic Moroccan charm

Marrakech is both manic and colorful, so stepping into Les Trois Mages feels like an oasis of calm and tranquility. The common areas are decorated with traditional tadelakt walls, Moroccan fabrics, and handcrafted metalwork sofa and chairs. The stunning courtyard takes center-stage, with white-painted walls, Zelig-tiled dining tables, and traditional potted plants dotted around the property. The breezy rooftop pool and terrace is a nice spot to spend the afternoon after a busy day exploring the souks, or before heading out for an evening meal. English and French are fluently-spoken by the manager, and the overall vibe is relaxed. The Riad attracts a mix of couples and families looking for a peaceful retreat amid the bustling Medina.

Location

In the historical quarter of Riad Larousse, a 15-minute walk to the Medina's center

The riad is located down a maze-like alley amid the bustling Medina, an 11th-century UNESCO recognized quarter with souks selling traditional Moroccan crafts. Situated in the historical Riad Larousse area of Marrakech, the property is hidden away from the chaos, on a nondescript side street that can be difficult to find initially. It's an ideal base for exploring the Medina, which can be reached in around 15-minutes by foot. Jemaa el-Fna Square is a 20-minute walk from the riad -- full of food stalls, juice vendors, snake charmers, and fortune tellers. Other nearby attractions include the Palais de la Bahia, Koutobia Mosque, and the Majorelle Gardens, which are all a 20- to 30-minute walk from the riad. Menara International Airport is around a 20-minute drive, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Six Moroccan-style rooms with air-conditioning and Wi-Fi, but no TVs

All guest rooms are all individually-decorated in a traditional Moroccan style, with Berber Kilim rugs, hand-carved cedar wood furniture, ornate metal bed frames, and lanterns and lamps hand-crafted by local artisans. Some rooms are smaller than others, and there is a large Suite with an additional separate living space and sunken bathtub. All rooms are inward-facing, overlooking the beautiful central courtyard. Basic technology is included, such as air-conditioning, safes, and free Wi-Fi, though there are no TVs or phones. All rooms come with heaters and electric blankets, as Marrakech can be chilly at night. Bathrooms are clean and spacious, with fine tiles, bronze fittings, hammam-style showers, hairdryers, and free toiletries. You are likely to hear the morning call to prayer in rooms, though this is common throughout central Marrakech.

Features

Rooftop terrace with pool, plus free homemade breakfast and free Wi-Fi

Like most Riad's in Marrakech, Riad Les Trois Mages offers simple facilities. It has a lovely rooftop terrace with a small heated pool, which is surrounded by sun loungers, umbrellas, and various seating areas. The property also has a music room with traditional Moroccan instruments. A free homemade breakfast is served daily in the picturesque courtyard, consisting of Moroccan pancakes, eggs, bread, fruit, yogurt, fresh orange juice, coffee, and tea. Lunch and dinner is a mix of Moroccan and Western fare, and must be arranged in advance. There is no hammam inside the Riad, but visits to a local hammam and other spa treatments can be arranged upon request. Airport transfers can also be arranged for a fee. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
