In the quieter northern stretch of
Myrtle Beach, Cabana Shores Hotel is a value property with 74 rooms and suites, including some with
full kitchens, located directly across the road from the beach. All rooms feature private balconies -- and some offer beautiful ocean views -- as well as mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers,TVs (flat-screen or tube-style), and free Wi-Fi. The hotel also has an outdoor pool area with lounge chairs and umbrella tables, and an inside hospitality room with a dartboard and
pool table. The property, however, with its outdated furnishings and bedding, has an "old" feel about it, and guests have complained about musty
smells and stained carpeting. Guests might want to consider the (often) similarly priced Best Western Plus Grand Strand Inn & Suites -- a 16-minute drive south of Cabana Shores -- which offers a free breakfast buffet and an outdoor barbecue area.

Cabana Shores Hotel. Inside, the lobby is beach-style, with cream-colored walls,
potted plants, and nature-inspired pictures. The hotel has a lounge area with yellow walls, tables with chairs, and a long, wooden bar. Attached to the room is a small rec room with a foosball table and a dart board. A white fence surrounds the outdoor pool area, which has plenty of lounge chairs, where guests can take in the ocean views.

The hotel is at the
northern end of Central Myrtle Beach, in the residential Cabana District, near homes and condo complexes and a large high-rise resort a few blocks over. The sandy beach is right across the road. Pine Lakes Golf Course is within a five-minute drive, as are several restaurants, including the Melting Pot, the Aspen Grill, and Ciao Italian. Broadway at the Beach is less than a 10-minute drive, and the
airport is within a 15-minute drive away.

Rooms range in size from Standard to Deluxe Suites but need an update
Rooms, which range in size from Standard to Executive and Deluxe Suites with separate bedrooms, have an old-fashioned look, with floral bedding and window valences. All come with private balconies (Executive Suites have two balconies), mini-fridges, microwaves, coffeemakers, flat-screen and tube-style TVs, and free Wi-Fi, and some have full kitchens with ovens and full-size refrigerators. Although the pictures of tropical scenes add a nice touch, the decor is dated. Carpets show stains, some rooms have a musty odor, and some of the bathroom fixtures show rust. Bathrooms have tile
floors and shower/tub combinations. Guests recommend oceanfront
rooms whose balconies offer beautiful ocean views.
