Some of the children's summer activities require a fee
Captain's Quarters Resort is like many hotels along Ocean Boulevard -- rooms are a bit worn, and the highlights are the beachfront location and the numerous pools (particularly the outdoor children's pool, complete with a pirate ship). The Ikea-esque light wood, bright aqua accent walls, and flat-screen TVs in the rooms add a little modern flair, but the comforters are low-quality, and in the suites, the kitchenettes are dated. The Downtown Myrtle Beach location is convenient, but don't expect tranquility -- the pool area gets packed with kids and partiers.
The hotel is right on the beach, along with numerous other hotels lining Ocean Boulevard. It's a busy street but there are sidewalks for the many tourists who are staying in the area.
Myrtle Beach is continually ranked as one of America's best family beach destinations, and offers visitors one-of-a-kind nightlife, more than 100 golf courses, and 60 miles of sandy shoreline. It's known to get a bit jam-packed, although the off-season brings smaller crowds -- but not those high southern temps ideal for sunbathing.
