Hilton Garden Inn Myrtle Beach/Coastal Grand Mall provides the safe, clean, and typical mid-range stay that Hilton members expect of the brand. While indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, and a restaurant serving a paid breakfast and dinner are convenient, some might not appreciate a 10-minute drive to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade. A free airport shuttle and a location across from the Coastal Grand Mall may make up for the beach inconvenience, as could the 112 contemporary rooms with modern amenities like microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers. Travelers who trust chain brand names might consider Best Western Plus Grand Strand Inn & Suites, which has similar amenities and lower rates, plus free breakfast and a beachfront location.
Scene
Chain brand hotel with a cozy lobby and diverse clientele
Hilton Garden Inn Myrtle Beach/Coastal Grand Mall is housed in a chain-like olive green and cream building with brick accents, and it offers an exceptionally stylish lobby. It’s hard for the eye to not be drawn to the plentiful green accents in the lobby, from the carpet with printed leaves to hanging white curtains with green ribbon-like designs. The tiled walkway that leads to the white reception desk is flanked on one side by cozy seating areas with modern gray or cream furniture clustered about a fireplace or window. Fruit-infused water is a nice welcoming touch and music plays in the evening in the spacious lobby and bar area. Travelers, a mix of families, business people, and couples, often congregate in the spacious lobby or by the pool.
Location
Across from Coastal Grand Mall and a 10-minute drive to the beach
Unfortunately, the property doesn’t have a beachfront location in Myrtle Beach, though the Myrtle Beach Promenade and Boardwalk is a 10-minute drive away. Whispering Pines golf course takes four minutes to reach by car. The hotel’s biggest highlight is that it’s across the street from the Coastal Grand Mall, complete with dining options and a movie theater. For more entertainment, Broadway at the Beach is a nine-minute drive away. While guests may need a car to reach most attractions in Myrtle Beach, the hotel does offer a free shuttle to and from Myrtle Beach International Airport, a nine-minute ride away. Myrtle Beach State Park is a 20-minute drive away, and is located beachfront with several miles of hiking trails. The Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge is a 55-minute drive, and has miles of hiking trails and outdoor recreational activities like hiking and fishing. The Cherry Grove Fishing Pier is a 35-minute drive and is popular with leisure travelers and fishing enthusiasts alike.
Rooms
Contemporary rooms with Keurigs, microwaves, and mini-fridges
Room style at Hilton Garden Inn Myrtle Beach/Coastal Grand Mall isn’t anything to write home about -- it’s contemporary and a bit bland, though it maintains a clean and cozy atmosphere. All units feature earthy tones of green and brown, and red-wood furniture. The plaid curtains and the floral printed carpets add some contrast to otherwise bland rooms. Amenities are modern and plentiful, and include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, microwaves, mini-fridges, and Keurig coffeemakers. Perhaps most impressive are the ergonomic Mirra work chairs by Herman Miller available in all rooms. Bathrooms are contemporary, but simple with granite sink countertops, shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and Neutrogena toiletries. Suites feature large jetted tubs. Note that rooms directly above the bar may pick up some bothersome noise in the evenings.
Features
Indoor and outdoor pool deck, American restaurant, and fitness center
This Hilton offers features that are a step above what you'll usually find in this price range, and an indoor pool in addition to an outdoor pool and hot tub are a pretty nice extra. Note that the outdoor pool isn’t particularly private as it faces the mall, which some guests might not like. Travelers can stay fit in the modest 24-hour fitness center complete with a couple of cardio machines and free weights. Business travelers might appreciate four fully-equipped meeting rooms and a business center. Though the rooms have microwaves and mini-fridges, there are plenty of dining options on-site, such as a paid buffet or a la carte breakfast that features an omelette station and hot and cold items. Lunch is not offered, though American cuisine is available for dinner (seasonally) or through room service from the restaurant and bar. For late night snacks, the 24-hour pantry stop is convenient. Other amenities include a coin-operated laundry room, free parking, and free Wi-Fi.
