Hotel Blue's beachfront location, large pool with swim-up bar, and regular pool parties make it a solid value for sun seekers who want to have a good time. It also offers a sleek contemporary design in its public places and a lobby bar, which makes it stand out from other hotels in the area. The rooms, however, are well worn out and are in need of a renovation.
Scene
A good place for young adults looking to party, but not for families or couples looking for a quiet getaway.
By all accounts, this is a party hotel, ideal for spring breakers and other young adults looking for a good time at a low price. The hotel houses a contemporary lobby bar, pool lounge, and pool parties with live music and DJs. Though plenty of families stay at the property, it's not ideal for kids. Families looking for a quiet getaway may be turned off by the partygoers living it up at the wet bikini contests and other pool parties that go well into the evening and early morning. Therefore, families may consider the sister property, Captain's Quarters Resort, located a couple of minutes away.
Location
The hotel is located on the beach and is a short walk to several restaurants.
The location is right on the beach and close to several restaurants, bars, and attractions. Located down the street is sister property Captain's Quarters Resort, which features additional bars, restaurants, and amenities available to guests of Hotel Blue. Family Kingdom Amusement Park is less than a five-minute walk from the property. The Grand Strand Plaza Shopping Center is about a 15-minute walk. Family entertainment center WonderWorks is less than a 15-minute drive.
Rooms
Rooms are pretty basic and lack the stylish decor found in some of the public spaces.
Though the lobby and public spaces are sleek and contemporary (for a value property), the rooms are not. Many guests note that the rooms are tired and in need of an update. The room decor is pretty basic, much like a dorm room. Walls are bare, mattresses are thin, and tiled floors seem weathered. All rooms are relatively spacious, however, with balconies (many with ocean views) and microwaves, coffeemakers, mini-fridges, and flat-screen TVs. Most rooms have small kitchens. There's also free Wi-Fi.
Features
Between this hotel and a sister property located down the street, guests will have plenty of amenities at their disposal.
The resort offers an oceanfront pool, a contemporary lobby bar and a sundeck and lounge area. There's also an indoor hot tub and lazy river with inner tubes. The hotel also offers free Wi-Fi and has a laundry room on-site.Aside from Cafe BLUE, located near the pool, there aren't any dining options on the property. The cafe sells Starbucks coffee, espresso drinks, hot and iced tea, and light snacks. Guests can make the two-minute walk to the resort's sister property, Captain's Quarters Resort, for more dining options and amenities, including many geared toward families. Captain's Quarters features a kids' water park, fitness center, bowling alley, arcade games, and six indoor and outdoor whirlpools. Vista Nine is the property's oceanfront restaurant that serves breakfast.
