Travelers looking to be right in the thick of things -- as well as right on the beach -- will find both at Landmark Resort. Located in Central Myrtle Beach on the Grand Strand, the resort and the surrounding area offers pretty much everything visitors could want for an action-packed South Carolina vacation, no car required. But keep in mind the hotel is just that -- a hotel, as opposed to a home-away-from-home that describes many other accommodations in Myrtle Beach.
Scene
It's mega-fun at this 570-room mega resort in the heart of Myrtle Beach.
If family fun in the ocean surf isn't enough, there's plenty more options for watery fun both indoors and out. Add in a water park, a nine-hole mini golf course, a video arcade and a seasonal sweet shop, and it seems all the elements of kid's' vacation dreams have come to life. Those seeking a quieter vacation may want to seek out another hotel -- or at least a high floor at this one. Rooms on lower floors are often noisy from the fun being had at the beach and pools.
Location
Right smack in the action in Central Myrtle Beach, just south of Family Kingdom Amusement Park and the boardwalk
Guests could easily arrive at the oceanfront Landmark Resort and never need their cars again. For that reason, it's helpful that the hotel offers a shuttle from the airport (for a fee), because a rental car would likely go to waste. The hotel is located on the Grand Strand in Central Myrtle Beach, and there's more than enough in the way of amusements, dining and shopping within walking distance. Fun-seekers will love the close proximity to Family Kingdom Amusement Park (a 15-minute walk), the boardwalk (a five-minute drive), and the on-site mini-golf, which is free for guests.
Rooms
Good value, but not all have kitchens, unlike at competing properties
There are many options for condo-type accommodations in Myrtle Beach, but that's not what Landmark Resort is known for. Instead, the resort is much like any hotel, offering a range of rooms from "efficiencies," with not much more than two double beds and a TV, to more expensive suites with separate seating areas and full kitchens. (Some guests may choose to order room service instead -- something not offered at many competing properties). Ocean-view rooms have a northerly view of the coastline, and standard guest rooms have balconies overlooking the interior courtyard. All rooms have wet bars, refrigerators and microwaves, free Wi-Fi, free in-room coffee, and hair dryers.
Features
There's a lot going on here, especially when it comes to water activities.
There are at least 15 options -- not counting the ocean -- for water fun at Landmark Resort. There's an oceanfront pool, a lazy river and an oceanfront whirlpool. There's also an indoor pool, an indoor lazy river, five indoor whirlpools, an indoor kiddy pool and an indoor kids' lazy river. And that's not the end of it: A water park, a lap pool and an additional whirlpool are also offered. For those more interested in fuel than pool, good news: The resort serves three meals a day in every season, not just high season. But at the height of tourist season -- when everything's open -- there are six options for food and drink on the property.
