Bottom Line

The Best Western Naples Inn & Suites is not quite what one would expect from a budget chain hotel: tropical gardens complete with koi ponds, lend a boutique hotel atmosphere to daily activities like eating breakfast and swimming. For its size, the hotel offers an impressive setting with two pools and two hot tubs, mini golf, and a lovely outdoor patio. There are Standard Rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges, Suites with cozy seating areas, and Apartments with full kitchens; some have patios overlooking the pool. The hotel is within walking distance of a supermarket, and a short drive from beaches, Naples Pier, and downtown. It beats out the prices of beachside hotels, which can be twice the rate per night, but the rooms here could use a refresh.

Scene

A budget chain hotel that exceeds expectations with its relaxing ambiance

The Best Western Naples Inn & Suites is a 110-room hotel that's reminiscent of old Florida. It has the look of a motel, with an entrance through a small, clean lobby with floor-to-ceiling windows with wood shutters and a wall of natural stone. The hotel is wrapped around a central swimming area, and the grounds are neatly manicured with cut grass, trimmed bushes, and large oak and palm trees. Outside, guests walk through a pergola to enter the main swimming area, which is surrounded by the hotel’s lush garden set with koi ponds, stone structures, whimsical statues, colorful flowers, and brick pathways.

Location

Within walking distance of many restaurants; a short drive to Naples Zoo and the beach

The hotel is located right off of a main thoroughfare called Tamiami Trail, where there are many stores, restaurants, and attractions within walking distance. A drugstore is located across the street, and a supermarket in the Naples Shopping Center is just a few blocks away. Dining options within a 15 minutes' walk include Chinese food and family-style chain restaurants. Lowdermilk Park Beach just east of the hotel, and is best reached by car in about five to 10 minutes (or about 25 minutes walking). Other attractions close to the hotel include the Naples Zoo (five- to 10-minute drive) and the Naples Pier on the beach (10- to 15-minute drive). Downtown Naples is about a 10-minute drive from the hotel.

Rooms

Basic and clean; some in need of an update, others with poolside terraces

The lodging at this hotel is similar to a motel, with open air entryways. The hotel rooms surround the pool area, and inner rooms on the ground floor have sliding glass doors that lead outside. Inside, rooms are dated with dark carpeting and floral-patterned bedding, along with leather couches and chairs, drop ceilings, and cherry wood furniture. Some rooms are more modern, with textured carpeting and simple bed runners over white linens. All have a basic dresser, flat-screen TV, mini-fridge, and microwave. Apartment-style rooms have a full kitchen with refrigerator, oven, sink, dishwasher, and kitchenware. Some rooms have balconies or terraces overlooking the pool; ground-level rooms overlooking the pool are especially atmospheric. Bathrooms are plain, with cream-colored tile and shower/tub combos -- apartments have larger soaking tubs.

Features

Fun activities outside, including two swimming pools and a mini golf course

The best features at the hotel are the gardens and a koi pond, swimming pools, and hot tubs. The Main Pool and Suites Pool are very similar, each with a separate hot tub, surrounding tropical trees and plants, and dark green sun loungers and multi-colored umbrellas on the deck. There's also a mini golf course with tropical plants and stone statues throughout. Continental breakfast (with waffles, eggs, and cold items) is served every morning at the tiki hut by the pool, where there are colorful pots and flowers. The property offers laundry machines for guest use. At the front desk, there's a DVD library. There are no on-site dining options or exercise facilities. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
