Bottom Line

One of three big casino hotels just over the Nevada state line, the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa attracts casino-goers throughout the year as well as people who want easy access to the nearby Heavenly Ski Resort. The 437 rooms and suites here at are clean and bright, and the indoor pool with its own artificial waterfall is a highlight. There are also a casino, a spa, and a handful of restaurants, and the hotel is perhaps a tiny bit quieter than Harveys and Harrah's, the other two properties on the same strip.

Scene

A former Ceasers Palace, with vividly hued interior color scheme

The wide lobby looks like it might have been inspired by Star Trek, featuring low ceilings, squiggly blown glass lamp fixtures, and detailed motif carpets, all in the bold colors favored in the 1970s. This former Caesars Palace gets a fair share of visitor in town for concerts, gambling, and visiting nearby lake and ski attractions. One floor of the property is designated a smoking area. Like the other properties in the area, the 437-room property can get a bit hectic at night.

Location

On the Nevada side of town, near two other casinos

The MontBlue is situated at the edge of town next to the more crowded Harrah’s and Harveys casino hotels. It’s near a large golf course, a pharmacy, and a number of (mostly chain style) restaurants and cafes. It's a 15-minute walk from the shore of Lake Tahoe and a 12-minute walk to the Heavenly Ski Resort. The Lake Tahoe Airport is 15 to 20 minutes away by car, depending on traffic.

Rooms

Pretty, light rooms, some with whirlpool tubs

The rooms and suites at the MontBleu are some of the prettiest in the neighborhood, with cedar-colored wardrobes and dressers, pale green carpets, and gold accents. All come with box-style TVs and many have lake or mountain views. Wi-Fi is available for a fee. Bathrooms are well-lit and spacious, and some room categories have whirlpool tubs (others have semicircular shower/tub combos).

Features

Gorgeous pool open to outside guests, a spa, an arcade, and plenty of places to eat

The indoor swimming pool at the MontBleu is among the hotel's most striking features. It's illuminated by skylights and has its own artificial waterfall and faux rock formations that make it look a bit like a mountain swimming hole. The area around the pool has a few cushioned loungers and a triskelion-shaped whirlpool. The pool is free for guest use, and outside visitors can use it for a daily fee. The hotel also has an arcade with video games and pinball and an outdoor patio flanked with tall pine trees. There's a fee to use the spa and gym, although hotel guests that book treatments get a free 24-hour pass. The MontBleu also has its own casino as well as two bars, two cafes, and two restaurants, one of which offers buffet-style dining.
