Embassy Suites New Orleans – Convention Center is an upper-middle-range hotel that wrapped up a top-to-bottom renovation of the property in 2015. Public spaces are bright and spotless, and the 370 guest rooms and suites have
elegant, up-to-date interiors. Breakfast is free, as is the nightly manager’s reception with appetizers and drinks. Other notable facilities include Stacks Grilled Cheese and Bar, a heated outdoor pool, a well-equipped fitness
center, and a 24-hour business center. However, Wi-Fi
is free only for Hilton HHonors members, and the French Quarter is not in easy walking distance. The Windsor Court Hotel offers a much larger rooftop swimming pool and free Wi-Fi, closer to the French Quarter.
Scene
Fanciful European touches including a pleasant atrium lobby and courtyard
Though the Embassy Suites New Orleans – Convention
Center belongs to a large hotel chain, there are a few aspects of its interiors
and atmosphere that set it apart from typical cookie-cutter properties. One is
its large atrium in the lobby area, resembling the ceiling of a train station,
with a pleasant courtyard-style space with terra-cotta floors topped with
potted trees and cafe tables and chairs. The surrounding walls are painted in
cheery colors to look like European-style building facades, complete with real
windows and balconies. The reception area has a European cafe feel about it,
with gray and white countertops, matching floor tiles, a wall of framed
architectural photographs, and Old World-style, high-backed armchairs and semi-circle leather chesterfield sofas. The central business district and the Ernest N. Morial
Convention Center are within walking distance, making this a popular place to
stay with business travelers. The hotel also gets its fair share of families and couples on vacation.
Location
In the trendy Arts and Warehouse District
Embassy Suites New Orleans –
Convention Center is located in New Orleans’ Arts and Warehouse District on a street of large low-rise buildings; the hotel occupies the site of a former sugar refinery. It's just a
10-minute walk from the business district and a six-minute walk away from the
New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. In the immediate vicinity of
the property there are several other hotels, as well as businesses, restaurants,
and shops. The French Quarter and main tourist district is a bit farther away,
but easily reachable by bus, a 20-minute ride. The nearest streetcar stop is at
Julia Station, a five-minute walk away. Valet parking is provided for an extra charge at the hotel. - Six-minute walk to Port of NewOrleans
Rooms
Elegant and tastefully decorated guest rooms and suites
Many of the guest rooms at Embassy Suites New
Orleans – Convention Center are actually two-room suites made up of a bedroom
and living room. The decor is elegant and tasteful: Dark furniture
contrasts nicely with the white walls, gold fabric curtains, and the brown and
navy blue pattern of the wall-to-wall carpets. Elegant desk lamps and
framed architectural photographs in sepia tones add a touch of sophistication. Some guest rooms and suites have atmospheric exposed brick walls and balconies
with views of the city. Each sitting area includes a pull-out sofa and two
comfortable armchairs in beige tones. All rooms are equipped with
air-conditioning, microwaves, mini-fridges, coffeemakers, flat-screen TVs,
and a variety of pillows to choose from. The bathrooms feature large walk-in
showers, granite sink tops, large mirrors, and Giovanni toiletries. Some guests
have complained of minor signs of wear and tear in the guest rooms, and
problems with street noise.
Features
Free breakfast, contemporary restaurant, heated pool, and free reception treats each evening
A free made-to-order
breakfast is served each morning in the atrium space. Each evening, guests are
invited to join in the manager’s reception where light appetizers, cocktails,
wine, and beer are served, free of charge. The on-site restaurant, Stacks
Grilled Cheese and Bar, serves American-style favorites and specialty grilled
cheese sandwiches, and also offers a bar service. Room service is available as well. The heated outdoor pool with an adjacent sundeck is small, but good for a dip. For working out, there's a gym equipped with
weights, elliptical machine, cross-trainer, treadmills, and stationary bikes. For business guests, there's a
24-hour business center and 8,000 square feet of meeting space. The Wi-Fi
