Bottom Line

This large, contemporary complex sits in a wooded park that's about an hour and a half from Paris, and a mile outside the small town of Forges-les-Eaux. It offers a large selection of features, including a small golf course, an adjacent lake with pedal boats, indoor tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a spa. The rooms here, some of which are slightly worn around the edges, are large, and comfortable, though a bit generic. There is a casino across the street, and plenty of handsome park grounds for lounging and strolling. The property tends to attract families and couples on vacation, but is also a venue for corporate retreats.

Scene

Families on vacation on a countryside complex on 27 acres, and business execs on corporate retreats

Families, couples, and retirees enjoy this complex, which offers a respite from city life and provides plenty of exercise facilities. The grounds are fairly spread out, with the buildings housing the rooms a low, long, four-story wood, concrete, and glass complex that looks not entirely unlike an office building. The lobby is wide with natural wood and low-lying couches. The grounds are a particular draw, consisting of ample, if unstructured, green space, including a woodsy area and plenty of open grass crisscrossed by walking paths. Only an hour and a half from Paris, the hotel and its facilities can get crowded on the weekends.

Location

Slightly less than a mile from the small town of Forges-les-Eaux

The hotel is on a calm street surrounded by ample grounds that include a small patch of woods, a small golf course, and a lake. It is about a 15-minute walk from the tiny town of Forges-les-Eaux, which itself is about an hour and a half from Paris by car. There is a casino directly across the street from the property.

Rooms

Modern generic decor in muted colors

The spacious rooms, with slightly drab wall-to-wall carpeting and dark wood lacquer furniture, are less impressive than the common areas. Taupe bedspreads are paired with either lavender or blue walls and fabric accents. There is little attempt at decor apart from the furniture and drapery textiles. But the overall the aesthetic is a visually calm one, and the beds are comfortable. That said, the French balcony doors could be better insulated, and the rooms can get cold in the winter. Larger suites have rugs and engineered wood floors, and slightly cheerier color schemes. All rooms have safes, large shower/tub combos in the granite-patterned bathrooms, hairdryers, and LCD flat-screen TVs.

Features

Plenty of outdoor as well as indoor space, including a spa, a pool, a fitness center, and a baby lounge

Common areas abound in the hotel, and are outfitted with a number of contemporary, low-lying couches where guests can relax and read the loaner books and magazines in the glass-walled library. There is a room dedicated to infants' needs, with a microwave and a mini-fridge stocked with baby food. Sporting options include the indoor pool, tennis courts, basketball hoop, and a small outdoor golf course. A spa with a small living wall features a lot of natural wood and offers beauty as well as a full menu of body treatments.
